Why do Evertonians expect success?

Which is based on reinvested funds and a nous in the transfer market, not because of his tactical efficiency. In fact, it's despite it.

We got the influx in funds at the right time which allowed us to solidify whilst the bottom half of the league remained in flux.

An "achievement" would be going above and beyond what is expected. Moyes has assembled a good, solid side due to how good he is in the market, but that's of no use at all if he bottles it every single time he is asked to do something important with that squad.

Serious question now. With our squad what position should we be in the league? Forget the manager Im talking about the squad

Hahaha! Brilliant bare minimum. Sorry Tubes but youve let yourself down there

It is. You can laugh all you like but it is the bare minimum, because the Rooney and Lescott windfalls have allowed us to gain a competitive edge over the rest of the league at a crucial time.

We can't rewrite history, that's what happened. You can't applaud Moyes' transfer record and then simultaneously ignore where the money for that came from and what the implications were.

Seventh.

"Bare minimum".

So, to go above and beyond and actually achieve something, you'd have to consistently finish higher than 7th.

It's like Man Utd's bare minimum is 2nd, but if they actually finish 2nd then that isn't applauded is it?

Different clubs have different expectations.

Thing is though Mick, you're right, Moyes did take us from relegation maybe to top half every season. And you're right, he deserves credit for that.

But, you knew a but was coming, it took him what 2 maybe 3 years to do that. What exactly has he done since?

It was a massive thing taking us from where we were, with the players we had, to where we are now, but it's so stale now. Nothing changes. It's always the same.

So if we finish 6th we have gone above and beyond and therefore Moyes has done a good job?

pffft So we are currently above where we should be

Whats he done since?

Hes kept us there.

Everton Football Club went 2 and a half Seasons without signing a single player and we "maintained" our League postion.

What right do we have to finish any higher than 7th? You genuinely think we have better squads than Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal?

Yes. You can vault me if you like and as recently as three weeks ago I posted "Am I the only one who thinks we are doing quite well?"

Because in the league we are. Going into the new year we were having a blinder, and my hope was that we'd push on at the crucial time and perhaps charge for 4th, which would be a tremendous achievement.

If we finish top six, we've had a "good" season, but that doesn't excuse yet another capitulation in the domestic cups. We've just been bummed at home against Wigan within sight of Wembley, and before that we went out to a Championship club in the League Cup. That's failure. There's no other way to describe it, and neither of those games can be excused by lack of investment because on both occasions we were playing inferior teams on paper.

True. But are we happy to just sit and do nothing? Whilst getting embarrassed in the cups every so often? And being woeful in Derbys?

Not sure what that has to do with anything at all mate. Me too as it happens.

Something has happened in my opinion, the players dont seem as together, the manger looks p1ssed off and players have well and truly gone off the boil.

I really do think the farce of January is a massive reason.

The owners are the ones that need pressure not Moyes in my opinion

The way his contract runs out, it's like having a caretaker manager, the players have no idea if they'll be playing for him next year. I think the situation is causing his authority to begin to crumble. Madness that we even went into the season without this being sorted.

Look at the effect that's had on Chelsea, and also West Ham who are in a similar situation to us with Allardyce (their form since talk about his contract started has been hit and miss also)

No, that's why I'd call it an "achievement" and why I'm saying 7th is the bare minimum Moyes should be achieving to avoid the sack. Look up what the word "achievement" means!

Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool - all sides that should finish above us. Everyone else, we should be finishing above.

Kept us at that level when other teams have spent masses of money.

Look you might all live in this fantasy world where hard work and hope win you leagues, cups and other honours but money talks. We cant buy a £16m midfielder to sit on the bench or a Veron for £30m that is absolute pants we have to work with what we have and uncover gems that will hold their value that can be used in the future to help replenish the squad.

Moyes does that better than anyone else.

We lose soem big players this summer and Moyes and the manager that comes in makes a couple of duff signings we will really struggle next year. Im so sure of it.
