problem is mate that this aint fifa you cant just shove 500k on a level 10 scout who suddenly hands you 11 messi's our academy is as good as every one else's regardless of money or manager.

If you plant a seed, feed and water it in good conditions it will blossom into a beautiful flower.

If you plant a seed, feed and water it in good conditions but its diseased it will die.

If you plant a seed, feed and water it for 2 weeks then shut it in a shed with only a little sunlight, watering and feeding it intermittantly chances are its growth will be highly stunted and be half the flower it could have been.

Great analogy! So true as well.

Youth development will matter when Moyes is gone.

If I'm a youth player in Everton's system, I'm thinking that there is no way I'm getting any shot at first team football under Moyes.

moyes always plays it safe and comfortable, hence same players every week , look at neville , now i think on balance he has been one of moyes best buys but he isnt worth a place anymore , but moyes is happy to play him rather than give youth a chance, jonny looks like an accident waiting to happen and we never keep a clean sheet with him in the team these days, but rather than give one of the young lads a chance he is in there you could go on but its just the way he is, dosnt take a chance

You raise a fair point. However, I think there needs to be a change in direction at the club under the next manager, with a larger emphasis placed upon giving younger players an opportunity. This is why I have been advocating a "dutch model" type manager.

Not at all.

Take Liverpool for instance.

Gerrard
Owen
Fowler
Carragher

Name everton youths that have ever gone on to be as good as those. Either crap scouts or crap coaches

Probably one:Rooney.

If you're going to be that picky, then name 5 Newcastle youths that have gone on to be that good.

Stupid thread. Our academy team are quite obviously not good enough to play in the first team or they would.

when we have no money to buy £30 million players we need to make them. We have cracking facilities so why is it only Liverpool who bring through the top Premiership players in our City?

What top premier league player have Liverpool brought through their youth system since Gerrard?

On balance they've brought more top players through than us. We've had Rooney in the past 20 years. They've had Fowler, Mcmanaman, Owen, Gerrard and Carragher.

You then look at United, Beckham, Neville, Scholes, Butt, Giggs

The main side for youth has been West Ham though

Cole, Carrick, Lampard, Ferdinand, Defooe.

Notice how it's clusters of players at the same time? We just ain't had that.

Another team Southampton .Bale, Walcott, Chamberlain

This is surely down to scouts and youth team development.

Hand on heart, i honestly don't think there would be a massive noticable difference if John Lundstram played in centre midfield instead of say, Phil Neville, on a weekly basis. There might be the odd game where you'd think Neville would have intercepted that pass, or made that tackle, but then there would be the other games where a far more composed and elegant Lundstram would have played a throughball or belted in a goal from 20 yards.

Give him a regular season or 2 and i'd say there wouldn't be much difference.

We can't go any further with the players we've relied upon for the better part of Moyes' reign.
