Europe a good thing?

I get you know. Yes, Doug left due to bad health at the time.

mind you though I can imagine him playing on bad health you can already here the clap clap clappers "how dare you question BK who, even on deaths door, is using all his physical strength to push through transfers for DM, we dont need no arab we have true blue Bill"

Given after the Utd game Moyes was quoted as saying the team looked "tired", and we aren't going to get the money any time soon to invest in quality players to give us any strength in depth.Would qualification be healthy in the short term.I'm obviously not factoring in the potencial for exotic away trips for the fans.

You got to give it to sprs and the ****e then because they have match us in the league (more or less) while staying in the Europa.

6th WONT happen. In order us to get 6th, we need striker who can score 20 a season, we dont have a striker who can score even 10 so forget it.

I do think we have a good chance for europe as FA Cup runners up. We have a good record against Wigan which if we stay true to form, will get through to the semi.

We can draw, City, United or one of the sides in the Championship. If lady luck is on our side, we could be in with a good chance of getting to the final.

If we play City or United in the final, we will get battered, but its Europe either way! I think this is our only option, cause we are awful in the league and no signs of changing.

have you realised arsenal are 5th without a striker who's scored 20. chelsea are 4th without a striker who's scored 20, spurs are 3rd with a striker who hasn't scored 20. man city are second without a striker who's scored 20.

i don't understand all this pish about people using newcastle as an example, surely you people understood that they massively overachieved last year? the squad wasn't good enough for where it finished that's why they're struggling. They've also been playing weakened teams in the europa which means it shouldn't have had any real effect on their league form anyway.

europe is obviously a good thing for us. we'll hopefully get a good few players in in the summer from whatever source of income. The reason why our players are so knackered atm is because moyes hasn't managed his squad well - he hasn't placed enough trust in them. there's bound to be teams in the europa that we can beat with a weakened team, look at newcastle again as an example.

1. we have no money
2. our wages are an issue
3. we have no squad depth
4. a player for very little coming in on very little wages who can score in big games and isnt arsed about being on the bench

I wouldnt mind him providing we have two other good strikers starting ahead of him mate.

are you seriously suggesting we should buy an oldham bench player who has scored 6 in 54 in league 1 and has previous clubs in Redditch Utd, Solihull, Droylesdon and Littleton????

for everton right?

i get your point about another option from the bench, but still, come on. If we bought every ****e striker who had a good game against us we'd be a laughing stock

The problem is, the ambition should always be to finish as high up the league table as possible, no matter what. So if that results in Europa League qualification, unfortunately we have to compete in it.

In an ideal world, it's Champions League or bust - I'd rather we finished 4th or 7th/8th and nowhere inbetween if it meant the Europa League. But it'd be showing an unacceptable lack of respect for the competition (although it deserves it).

I think the key will be money. Fellaini is the option to get this money. He hasnt really performed for the last 2 months so we wouldnt loose much . If we could get him sold for 25 million then use the tv money for the bank we could get a 10 million replacement and buy 5 more average playersv. That would take us foward

Moyes would have to have some trust in the squad players if he wanted to compete in Europe. He will have to use the likes of Oviedo, Hitzlsperger, Naismith and Anichebe (wouldn't have been used if Jelavic was on fire) more for a European campaign than sticking with his best 11 every Thursday and Sunday for a few months.

Not so sure he's willing to do that?

I hope Moyes does what he did this summer and get rid of the dead wood and reinvest the money into the squad, cash from Fellaini who will be off, but also flogging heitinga and one of jela/anichebe would give us around £30-35 mil to spend and with that we could bring in 3 very good £10 mil players and one £5 mil player, and thats not including the TV money.

Fellaini leaves this summer so there will be funds to bolster our squad for euro games
*dives

That's true to be honest.

I think most of us expect Felli to move on so there's nothing wrong with saying as such. We'd expect to bolster our squad with two or three players from his sale.

agree mate however I will say that the difference this time to us last time in the EL is that we will have imo around a good £30 mil to spend should felli go + TV cash combined (wouldnt say no to someone like matt smith, very low wages and someone to purely play against the weaker EL sides)

Shall we go for Jon Stead while we're at it?

Yeah there is no need for diving for cover there ... is there literally a single person here who (assuming we don't make the CL) doesn't think Felli is gone?

Oh wait ... there may be one.

Even so ... he's gone.

I think people should swerve the idea of 6 players to bolster the squad ... don't forget about wages and how we have no money. Don't get too excited about that new TV money either. The board will likely budget for a lower league finish if we have a new manager. Speculation sure ... but educated speculation.

Six new players (one good and five squad as suggested above) is probably 40-50k p/w and 15k-20k p/w respectively? So around 125-150k p/w on the books. Then remove Felli's wages of course. Then add in all the agent's fees and transfer costs and bank's demands to service/paydown debt ... I'd be very surprised to see 75%+ of the Felli money spent purely on transfers. They might do some creative accounting where it looks like we've spent most of it but then we never spend any of this extra TV money.

Also I really don't think five average players will really take us foward but that's a different argument. We'd be slightly better suited for sustaining a Europa campaign I suppose.

we cant afford a big squad mate with 3 quality players up top when we play a system with only one forward so if he was on a free and demanded tiny wages then I wouldnt be arsed same with Smith, as like I said aslong as we had two regular quality strikers starting ahead of him.

also Vellios has proven nothing to suggest he would be any better than Matt Smith yet you have people screaming for him to get a chance like he was Dzeko on the bench or something.
