Johnny Heitinga - You blew it son.

Benteke's turn of speed for the first goal would have left most CB's flat footed, and the third goal was pure class.

The problem with all of us that we quickly turn zero to hero and hero to zero. When he got us through the cup at Bolton it was all "Well done Johnny" but now it's all "Bad boy Johnny".

It's a season we play. Every player will make mistakes and cost their their team somehow. It's just human nature to vilify all to quickly when it happens, and forget about any positive contributions.

Bilbo.

Agreed, Good goal against Bolton. If we win the cup, he had a big say so.

You can only really reflect on a player once he's left us.

Could have a blinder against Utd

I don't think anyone's vilifying Heitinga quickly. He's been absolute garbage since day one of this season.

When he scored against Bolton I thought 'great strike, still a crap player' as did most I think. Of course people are going to congratulate him, but it doesn't mean everyone rates him.

For the first goal Jagielka/Distin would have been tighter and not let him turn in the first place by just stepping across. It's the fact Heitinga gave him so much space to run into which is the mistake, not being slower than him. The third was a great cross and header but Heitinga's positioning was woeful and he hardly gave Benteke a thing to worry about. Nudge him, try and win the ball, throw him off balance - anything. Just do something.

Some really cringeworthy defending of this bloke.

He has made countless mistakes for us but he keeps getting chance after chance. He has the odd good game, but I've never felt comfortable with him playing. Yesterday was ridiculous, gifted Villa a result.

No, I don't condone the ridiculous abuse some morons are giving him on Twitter, but I don't know it can be denied this bloke just isn't up to task. Let's not pretend this is just about yesterday, he's just not been good enough in his time here relative to where we want to be, simple as.

Those wondering why Jags is right back, and not Heitinga - Interview a while back

Heitinga: "I have certainly not come here to sit on the bench. Together with Phil Neville, I have more experience than all the others. I have played in four major national team tournaments and I have played the World Cup final.
"I belong to the 22 best players in the world and I belong to the four best central defenders in the world. Ok, I won't exaggerate now! But make it ten best central defenders in the world. That should be enough confirmation.
"Once you've been on the biggest stage in the world and once you've played in the final of the World Cup, it gives you a boost as a player. It is fantastic for your confidence.
"I don't want to moan. At the end of the day it is all down to me. Apart from not playing sometimes, I love it here in England. I am still aiming for big success here in England. Well, I have played 65 games in the Premier League in two seasons. That is a start.
"I hope being out is a temporary thing. I will decide in the summer what I will do."
"It's strange for me to sit on the bench at Everton. I will always claim that I am the best central defender at this club - definitely since the World Cup.
"I could understand it if the manager leaves me out of the team when I make big mistakes. But right now I can't get over the last few weeks.
"The manager is not a big talker. Never has been. He does not explain his decisions to others either. He just says everybody will get playing time."
"The manager prefers power in central defense. But I am convinced I can supply that power too. I am not 6 feet 6inches tall, but I don't lose any headers. I proved that against many top class strikers.
"When I watch the Champions League on tv, my stomach turns. I used to hear the hymn of the Champions League as an Ajax player in the stadium. Now I am lying on a couch in front of the telly here in England on such nights."
I want to be in Europe again. I want to get there with Everton, but it is a big fight. We have a lot of competition."
"I refuse to go and play in every position now. I don't want to be right back again. I told the manager that.
"I'm not worried about the future. My career is still going up. I can tell that by the massive clubs who came knocking on the door for me in the winter. One of them was so serious and so concrete. But I did not want to leave in the middle of a season. And Everton did not want to let me go.
"That was a good sign. I feel I can still become an important player here for the fans and the team."

Personally although he had a bad performance i think he could only be directly blamed for one of the goals. The first goal was a mistake [a bad one too] by Distin, and probably baines / pienaar too. And i don't think the goalkeeper was great for any of the goals. I would rather we moved him on in the summer, Put the wages towards another player and promote Shane Duffy.

I think it would be an interesting exercise to compare people's views on Anichibe and Heitinga over time.

Plenty of people said last season that they would gladly ship off Anichibe to the likes of Wigan for a token fee, but now I'd imagine most are quite happy with him being our starting striker, at least until Jelavic rounds into form.

we shouldn't be moving Jags to accomodate Heitinga.

Doesn't make sense to use our best cb out of position.

If Heitinga can do a job Cdm, then fine, if not, bench.

But Heitinga is an Everton Player whose scored an important goal and who could be needed before the end of the season.

I'm not going to hate him just yet if its all the same to you guys.

What happens when one player starts playing better and one starts playing worse.

Obviously your opinions on both change. Otherwise you'd be insane.

It didn't look to me like he had suddenly Zoomed up a gear. He simply stepped around Hietinga who just didn't look like he ave a crap.
