Once a blue always a....
Just chatting in the Duncan Ferguson leaving everton thread and it was suggested by some that he is almost an everton legend and by others that he is a legend
I wonder.....what does it take to be a genuine no arguments Everton Legend and who do you think deserves that status and has not quite got it ?

Legend, typically, is a short (mono-) episodic, traditional, highly ecotypified[4] historicized narrative performed in a conversational mode, reflecting on a psychological level a symbolic representation of folk belief and collective experiences and serving as a reaffirmation of commonly held values of the group to whose tradition it belongs.

According to this professor Dunc is a legend.

Dave Watson is probably to my mind our last true "legend"(League and FA Cup winner,Captain, would put his neck on the block for us,I can remember Waggy playing with a strapping the following week after having broken his ribs)),others of the more recent era have been very good players and stalwarts such as Cahill/Arteta/Ferguson,but more cult heroes than Legends IMHO.If we were to go on and achieve something, the likes of Baines could certainly achieve that status

I agree with whatever this means if it makes Big Dunc an official legend

Everton Legend - A player that dies hard for this club and gives it his all and helps the club through his career and his appreciated by it's fans and everyone at the club. e.g Dixie Dean, Alan Ball, Alex Young, Bob Latchford, Neville Southall, Duncan Ferguson, Tim Cahill. Future legends - Kevin Mirallas.

Legends for me are people like Labone, Ball, Kendall, Harvey, Ratcliffe, Southall , Watson..............and obvs Dixie Dean.Prob some more i've not added.....but it's just somebody who is that little bit special....gives that little bit more and never gives up.

I will probably get battered for this but Duncan Ferguson scored (and you can count on one hand) some "important" goals ie against Man U the RS etc, I'm 33 and watched us since '84 in my eyes legends of "my" era are:
Southall
Ratcliffe
Sharp
Bracewell
Van Den Hauwe
Reid
Steven
Stevens
Heath
Well many of the 80's lads going on you have to include Watson but then I struggle to include the likes of Ferguson as a legend as my arl fella rightly says he was no Alex Young. However he is and will ALWAYS be part of the royal blue family semi legend possibly. Lets be honest at the time there wasn't much to shout about when he was playing.

Its difficult to decide, I loved dunc, Cahill, hibbo the lot. But lets say they got a statue outside Goodison Park? It wouldnt really feel right considering the likes of Alan Ball, Brian Labone, Southall to name a few have represented this great club. If those 3 or a few others got a statue it would be well deserved and wouldn‘t be sniffed at. I couldn't really say that about Dunc and a few others. Nevertheless they‘re Everton favourites and always will be.

I hope people get what im saying ...

Exactly, Dunc, Cahill, Gray....they all played their part...and it was a tremendous part and each will have their own piece of Everton history,, but I don't class any of them as true legends. Maybe in years to come I will think differently.

Legend.
Alex Young - School of science.
Brian Labone - Biggest Blue of us all.
Howard Kendall - Player & Manager.. enough said.

Not a legend - Latchford.
Flat track bully. Never scored against Liverpool. Had to be persuaded to take pens in his 30 goal season.
