Moyes debate on Talksport drive now

Depends on how you value the ROI on this one. If improving us to upper half of the table with the occasional foray into Europe by finishing sixth is good enough, then he's worth every penny. If you feel that some silverware and consistent campaigns on the continent is what we should be getting, then he's massively overpaid.
And before anyone kicks on with the "he's had nothing to spend" mantra, I'm well aware he built this current team on a shoestring, so it can be done, yet it's pissing away points left, right and centre against inferior opposition. And whether it's because of his substitutions (or the lack thereof at timely moments), his tendency to go into a defence-first mode wheever we get a goal up or his halftime talks, ultimately the responsibility is his. He needs to become more ruthless in his dealings with the players and not keep playing his favourites.

At those wages and he has the audacity to give Bill an ultimatum, cheeky [Poor language removed].

Mate surely this is good from the club point of view, a lot of people want him to do this and feel he should have done it years ago. He apparantly is saying back me financially (budget wise) or i am off. He is to valuable to the board for them to let him just walk so hopefullly this will force them to find some money, i am assuming he could have signed the contract long before now if this was not the case. or being more cynical maybe he is trying to panic the board in thinking he will leave and they offer even more money. Me personally thinks he is worth. Kenwright worth feck all

We pay him good money and in exchange we get great players for relatively no money.
He makes what he earns in his signings let alone his league positions so for me he's well worth it.
Won't be able to go much higher though. Give the man a fkin budget and lets see how good he actually is.

Its all pointless anyway, I mean look at the list, some of the names above him and just below are stealing a living out of the Clubs.

If a complete joke like Hughes can earn the same amount as Moyes, hes clearly underpaid.

I agree with Goat, i think he's worth what we pay him.

Compared to other managers on that list yeah he's overpaid, but comapred to how much he's worth to us as a club with the job he has done, and continues to do he's worth what we pay him for what he brings in to the club.

He's not perfect and not the only guy who could do his job, but right now he is the guy who has to keep us competetive in the top half of the Prem with the board we have behind him.

His ability in the transfer market is his biggest skill, and the one we rely on the most.

This is why his refusal to sign a new contract grates.I love moyes but who the **** does he think he is. Sends a bad message to the likes of felli and baines as they eill think **** it, if you can't commit why should we. He is well looked after here and where would he be better treated by board and fans? If its a ploy for more money just come out and say i need money to spend.

I think the third caller on the show, the season ticket holder, got it about right. He is worth every penny for his wheeling and dealing for players but isn't worth it tactically.

Interesting to note that Marcelo Bielsa isn't even on that list. Moyes out, Bielsa in - looks like I've just saved Bill a few quid!

Difficult to argue with that, some of subsistution are mind-boggling.

Is Bielsa always in jogging bottoms because he actually cant afford a suit?

Agreed. But few other things to think about I reckon. What's the role of a manager (ok, can vary a little depending on the club ahem,, Chelski) but in general I think it's: Transfers, Tactics and Motivation.

Transfers - 8/10 - his record is great (bar a few, we all know who they are) as he's regularly polished turds or scratched diamonds from the lower league coal mines - Timmy, Jags, Seamus and Lescott et al. People always bang on about giving him more money to spend and that we'd win the league. But, look at others - Fergie, Wenger, Hughes all arguably made their best buys (Cantona, Vieira, Anelka, Santa Cruz) before they opened the pot at the end of the rainbow - why, coz being brassic concentrates the mind. Just a thought like.

Tactics - 6/10 - anyone that seen a kung fu movie knows that anything is possible in a fight..... even without a knife! You don't have to always dodge and wait for them to run out of bullets (after being hit a few times) before you go for the Alamo in the last 10 minutes (and get a draw). Ok. That was previous seasons and I thought this was different - flurry of roundhouses, combos ahoy and generally looking great but without the death blow. But, then hit by (we all see it coming) the classic Karate Kid crane kick right on chin. Ow. Moan.

Motivation - 7/10 - only so many times you can rely on the underdogs billing to motivate, seems weird that as soon as he starts talking up the team they go belly-up. Also, after recent games half time seems a wee bit dour from second half performances.

On the whole, I think Moyes is / has been great and is a great fit for our club - decent, loyal, realistic, pragmatic and basically a sound guy. However, there's a bit of me that feels he's been here too long and the same feeling of fear that we all have when we're one nil up, he shares and inevitably, goes defensive. I thought this season was different and that Moyes was different, but seems after the last few games he's retreated back into his Blue shell. Or maybe that's just us fans polluting the present with the past.

Last thought - bang for buck - Loew or Klopp seem best

No manager should earn that much, never mind one that's never won anything. For a skint club we are paying over the odds for mediocrity.
