Sir Landon Of Donovan

Listen.

I'll say this once again.

If Landon Donovan wants to come to Everton, HE can make it happen. Yes he has a contract with MLS and yes it goes a few more years.

But if he wants to come over here, I really don't see MLS standing in his way. Furthermore, I could see it happening without a transfer fee involved. Rather, he'd just have his contract terminated so he could move. I could see MLS doing that for him after all he's done for MLS over the years.

LA frees up his salary opening the door for another DP in the process as well. (He's on just over 2MM per season at this point).

Worst case, Everton cough up a marginal transfer fee to MLS (league owns contracts, not teams) but at this point, I don't see it being anywhere over 8MM USD (say 5MM GBP)

We shall see.

This summer or in January? I can't see any possible way MLS would just terminate his contract this summer for him to move in August. MLS is hardly known for making it easy for contracted players to move to Europe.

How much would the MLS want for him and would they ultimately be willing to let him leave. With Taylor Twellman being on ESPN recently I looked at his career and the biggest hindrance seemed to be the MLS not wanting to let him move.

For anyone else, you're correct.

For Landon Donovan, I think they'd make an exception.

Look the way I see it is by December he will enter the last 12 months of his contract and be turning 31 or there abouts. 3 or 4M tops. Plus as stated the MLS owe Donovan for all he's done for them. They would surely be happy to give Donovan a Europe swan song with us knowing after say 3 years they could bring him back for a money spinning good al American hero returning...
They love that **** over there!

I think he'll arrive in the summer perm or worst case jan perm. The noises pip is making and others I'm sure along with pienaar he's top of our list.

Just give me pienaar an landy this summe and I'd be more than happy!

Personally I would rather spend 4 million on a younger talent for the future..ok Donovon is a cracking player but we will get 2 maybe 3 good years out of him with no sell on value at the end of that period, spend the money on someone who may get you a return on your investment....examples being Fellaini and Baines...( I do know you won't get that quality for 4 million but you get the jist of what I'm saying ). On the other hand, if we can get LD for less or even nothing snap him up.

I don't think anyone could be disappointed with that. As long as we don't see Fellaini/Baines to finance it.

I hear what you're saying, but I also hate the planning for the future all the time shizz, only to bring someone on and then sell them and watch them succeed at a bigger club. Give me someone in their prime who's a star now please!

This, both Donovan and Pienaar probably wont have any resale value if we buy them now, but you need players like them to bring the experience and cutting edge to the side. 3 years is actually a very long time, I think people tend to think a bit football manager at times (not accusing you Kurtis), where you can smash 3 seasons out in a week with no sleep surrounded by 12 cans of relentless and 43 packs of pom-bear.

Sadly I think if he comes , or pienar for that matter, it will be as a pacifier to losing either Baines or felli.

The MLS is becoming less pushy in negotiations in selling its players. I actually think within the last year or 2, they have pretty much said that transfer negotiations will go strictly through the teams now when in the past the MLS officials negotiated transfers.

I know MLS was not involved in Tim Ream's move to Bolton, and the Galaxy were preparing to not have Omar Gonzalaz this year even before his knee injury (they expected him to make a permanent move to Nurnberg). FC Dallas was also ready for George John to leave last year for Blackburn but the deal fell through, and they also expected him to go to West Ham but he didn't really impress during his loan.

Landon Donovan Lists Manhattan Beach Compound as Rumors Swirl About His Return to the English Premier League

It’s been a huge week for U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan. First, the all-time leading scorer for the U.S. national team earnedMajor League Soccer’s Player of the Weekhonor last week for pushing his LA Galaxy team to three wins. Now this question: Where’s Donovan moving to?
It’s a question with increasing urgency — and not only because he has just listed his5-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom compound inManhattan Beach, CA.
Donovan’s crib in the oceanside city south of Los Angeles hit the market seven days ago. Listed for $4.295 million, the spread is pretty much exactly what you’d want if you were a young star whose national team training sessions were nearby; it is a fantastic house to live and play in.
The compound, which was featured on “MTV Cribsâ€￾ awhile back, consists of two separate houses on adjoining lots. Donovan had the main house customized by Moloney Development in 2007 and later added a second structure when he bought the lot next door. He lived there with his former wife, Bianca Kajlich, the “Rules of Engagementâ€￾ sitcom star to whom he was married from 2006 until their divorce in 2010.
Throughout Donovan’s world travels, including his triumphant goal during the 2010 World Cup that kept the U.S. team alive despite some challenging officiating, he has called Manhattan Beach home. The main house is the more elevated structure and consists of an open floor plan with French terra-cotta tile floors, custom wrought iron and cathedral ceilings.
The lower house was built to be the play zone, with a swimming pool, massage room, steam room, sauna, cold plunge and Jacuzzi. There’s also a theater, bar area and storage for 300 bottles of wine.

Merry Ol’ England Beckons?

Donovan’s decision to list his home comes amid continued rumors that the 30-year-old scoring machine might be headed back to England. His old captain with Everton of the Premier League told Sports Illustrated that he would love to get Donovan to return to England — permanently.
Reports are that while the MLS has resisted the idea of letting its star go, the league is on better financial footing and could be open to taking cash to make Donovan a free man. The MLS has twice allowed Donovan to be loaned to the Premier League squad, but it could be different the next time Everton comes calling … with checkbook in hand.
According to Sports Illustrated, Everton captain Phil Neville has been badgering Donovan to return to the team.
If there is a chance, I make sure that I try (to tempt him to Everton) every time I speak to him. That’s the first thing I say to him. Toward the end of his spell back in January I even tried to kidnap him for a while and keep him in England! I’m telling the truth here when I say the last two times he’s been over he’s totally transformed our season. He’s the ultimate professional, he’s got great quality and the Everton fans love him. He’s a hero at Goodison Park, and he’s played less than 20 games for us. I’ve played with some world-class right-sided players in my time, and he’s up there with them.â€￾
