Summer transfer window.

Alex Scott signed in 2023. Largely when we were selling the Park End to survive. A lot of these players, e.g. Hill, Kroupi (though less so) have 6-18 months pottering about before a decision is made on 1st team.

I made this list of midfield players I thought could move this summer:

Anderson
Baleba
Joao Gomes
Fernandes
Gray
Scott
Tonali
Wharton

Theres only so many that the very top teams can sign.

Worth a try.

Figures only Joao Gomes or Gray will be cheapish?

Why not try that wonderkid at hertha berlin or Hugo Larsson?

Well we are not getting Anderson, Scott, Tonali or Wharton and Gray would be a long shot, not sure about the others.

Gray (if relegated), Fernandes, Joao Gomes and Scott may be attainable for us.

All depends who United etc move for.

We've got cash to spend it seems and we know Moyes wont start players without premier league experience.

I’ll tell you what will happen..

We’ll spend all summer trying to offload Barry, probably end up loaning him back to Spain.

In the meantime we’ll chase Delap for months, only for him to stay at Chelsea. We’ll then move on to, and eventually sign, Zirkzee.

It's obviously a valid point to consider though

If you’re choosing between two strikers and one has 15 goals all from open play while the other has 15 but only 5 from open play, which one are you going for?

Yeah penalty taking is a skill and a goal is a goal but really you're judging your strikers on their ability to do it in open play and get on the end of chances

Especially if you play for Everton and don't get pens when the oppositions's defenders are punching the ball away in the box

Wharton is an interesting one and probably the best midfield player we could realistically get.

United and City look set upon Anderson , Guimares and Tonali.

Of course that means that Forest and Newcastle will be looking for a midfielder too but I get the feeling that Wharton isn't a sexy enough name for them.

He would compliment Garner and KDH well.

However , for me , midfield is way down in our list of priorities and if we thinking of lashing £50/60 mill on a player I'd rather it was a top striker

We need both, a top striker is pointless unless we start creating more within games and that includes midfielders with different profiles and skills to what we have now.
