Think there was a large amount of goodwill extended to him to begin with.
He’s never looked any good truth be told but no one wants to slaughter a new (youngish) player in their first season in a new league.
There was a hope he’d find his feet and grow into the league.
He arguably looks worse now than he did at the beginning of the season, but he certainly isn’t improving.
God only knows what made anyone think he would be a good fit for this league or even this club tbh.
I think there was genuinely a point earlier this season where you could see he had improved on various aspects of his game, but I think that's now gone backwards.
His movement is decent, he's better with his back to goal than Beto, he wins a lot of headers (albeit these are mostly in areas where it has no benefit to the team) and he's relatively quick.
The major problems with him are that he's so ungainly that he never seems fully in control of what he's doing (TBF both of our strikers fall into this category), he's frustratingly weak for a target man, he rarely ever looks like getting on the end of chances - just never seems to be in the right place, his attitude and resilience seem to be questionable, his finishing is ridiculously inconsistent (again, he's not the only striker we have who you could say that about) and, as intangible as this is, he's just not an Everton player for me.
Delap has had a poor season at Chelsea, but I genuinely think that if he'd chosen us last summer, he'd have been twice the player Barry has been for us.
