2025/26 Thierno Barry

Think it boils down to opinion on is this not with him now or is there headroom for him to improve.

I think we have to hope for the latter as I don’t want to go back to taking a hair cut on heavy priced players.

Remember last year when we were saying we should buy young players and try and improve them over a few seasons - seems in doing trying to do that with some of our players there is a real impatience .

If that’s was the plan, should we not see it through.

I’m conflicted on Barry - he annoyed me yesterday and recently, but I don’t want to loose the investment made in him and I also think well, don’t we sign these lads for potential as opposed to end product now….
He's got nothing though for me. What's he good at?

He needs to show something. He looks like he is going trip over the ball any time he gets it. doesn't make good runs etc, he has got nothing that show's you he may have something about him.

Loves his phone and social media
Loves his pay cheque
Loves attention but only if things are going well
Loves his cringey celebration medley

Hates any kind of effort
Hates warranted criticism
Hates the fans
Probably hates his team mates

These are not the qualities of an Everton player. I don’t care if it’s a bad investment by booting this phoney footballer out of this club at the first opportunity. He is a shocking example of everything a professional footballer should not be. Having destructively selfish characters like him around is terrible for team cohesion and morale.
I feel some of this is a stretch.

Can he not just be crap at football?

Very strange watching this lad. I am not sure if he has been advised poorly, or what this issue is. He seems to have been put under the impression that he is at a Fulham, or similar club. A nothing team who's fans are there for a day out, and it doesn't particularly matter if you win or lose. To do things such as putting your mates in an away end to support the home team, or jogging around the pitch as the game passes you by, will not be tolerated by match going Evertonians. The team is their life, and anything less than 100% effort will get you on the wrong side of our fans very quickly. Somebody at the club needs to get hold of him and explain to him the size of the club he is at. If he can't handle that, then he can leave. Hopefully there are enough teams left in Italy or Spain who will take a punt on him.
I agree that Barry should surely understand the size of the club he is at by now. If our new stadium, tifos, coach welcomes and vocal away followings have not demonstrated the size of the club to him, what will? I doubt the supporters of any Premier League club would tolerate the effort we saw from him yesterday if he were one of their own players in any match, let alone a local derby match.

Yeah but in his head, the tifo should have read “soz Barry lad, our away fans are waiting outside the ground to beg your gooner mates forgiveness”.

Attitude is the biggest factor for me when you're wearing our shirt..
Its been said countless times that a lot can be forgiven with hard work at Everton

Beto is the prime example to that

For me its not about the Arsenal situation, i recall 2 moments, Sunderland away & Bournemouth at home, he missed a good chance at Sunderland, & missed a couple of chances v Bournemouth and his head went, he started moping, his game went! He got subbed in both those games and proceeded to do the grand gesture of sulking on the bench, making sure everyone could see, to gain pity. Thats not the right mentality for Everton

Kiernan Dewsbury Hall, away to Brighton, missed a good opportunity, clearly frusrated by it, but dealt with it in a far better way, next game Fulham away, instrumental in the goals including the score and get straight back to starting the game to get the winner

Also versus Brentford, messes up the 1 on 1, shows his frustration, but doesn't feel sorry for himself, he proceeds to want to right himself and gets a late equalizer, no sulking, no big grand gesture, just keeps on going

'we' were not all saying that

fine if you have a senior player doing the business in there position and they can be an able deputy or even push the starter, but in critical positions for us you can see the massive difference someone like Dewsbury Hall has done for us.

If we prioritize 4 positions this summer (Striker, Gueye replacement, Left Back, Right back) I'd want at least 3 of those to be in that 24-28 bracket who you can just drop straight into the team and play like they have been here for 3 years
