2025/26 David Moyes

I don't know what happened. We had all the momentum and had them rattled but the Beto sub just seemed to kill us.

Its mad though as it was so obvious the subs/set up was wrong within 10 minutes of Barry coming on. It needed Moyes to be pro active, it wasn't difficult to see. To do nothing just basically handed them the win. It doesnt matter that it came in the end of added on time, for those last 20 minutes there was only one side set up to win and that side wasn't us.

I'm absolutely fuming at the lack of reaction to what was going wrong. They were absolutely dreadful yet that lack of in game management had them walking off thinking they're 1970s Brazil.

Moyes has ultimate responsibility and final say - I think people understand that.

Moyes isn’t coming in banging on the desk demanding to sign the likes of Aznou though. There are other people involved bringing names to the table. (5 or 6 of them)
This is what I've been trying to say, probably not in the most eloquent way. Some of the players we have been signing are really not very good. So clearly somewhere in the recruitment process these players are being recommended.

It's not just the individual players and individual signings either. It's the overall strategy and what positions to target, what profiles we are looking for, what's the plan to get these players into the first team etc

I'm not saying any of these are simple questions or easy to get right, but I don't think we are doing a good job in getting the balance right between immediate impact and future potential. Last summer didn't look very organised from the outside looking in. Most of our business was very late - and only after the manager saying publicly a number of times that he was frustrated. And then you have the example of trying to get Tete as a right back early in the window only to then not sign any right back.

What are the options though? Beto had to come off. We don't have any other strikers unless we go with NDiaye or George up top. Barry is awful. I think he's actually worse than Niasse who I struggled to believe was a professional player. At least defenders were worried about Niasse randomly injuring them.

Who exactly are these people bringing names to Moyes? James Smith is Director of scouting and recruitment, appointed by Moyes, as he's worked with him for years. He's effectively taken over from Thelwell and Purdy. Moyes is making the decisions, they are just the wrong ones.

Does Moyes ever do anything proactive? His game management is as inflexible as his team selections

Moyes is doing a pretty good job with some fairly limited footballers. How many other managers have to deal with a main striker whose shot, when through on goal, almost goes out for a throw? Despite this, he has stopped using Beto as a target man and is playing a style that gives most sides a good game. With a bit more composure, more luck and a referee that interpreted the shoulder charge law correctly we would have been off to a flier today.

Despite the disappointing result this afternoon, we have 6 or 7 players that could form the basis of a really good team. If he can engineer a strong end to the season and use that to help recruit the players needed to plug the glaring gaps in quality in the squad then maybe he can take the side further than he managed the first time he was here.

Illy up top would have caused them more problems in 20 minutes than Barry has done in 20 games. We had Alcaraz on the bench, Rohl on the bench, Tim on the bench. Could have added more energy, more craft, try and pass our way around them. He could have brought Patterson on, moved Jake central and kept a higher line. As soon as Keane was on we naturally have to drop 10-15 yards deeper

We have so many options. He made 3 subs, 2 of which were forced on him.

As bad as Dyche was, he had 1 Derby at Goodison, and won it. 1. And it was against a much better Liverpool team than this one with a much worse Everton team. But they didn’t turn up like a gang of cowards that night.

I wouldn’t bet on Moyes winning a derby if he had another five years here.
Dyche has even been known to win at Anfield.

Moyes is a far better manager - but his nature limits him massively.

He has stabilised us excellently. Time to move on now.

Well if Moyes insisted on getting rid of Thelwell and his right hand man Purdy walks because of the structure he wanted to put in place then clearly that responsibility lies with Moyes. The only thing i find bizarre is why you think last summer's disaster wasn't the likely outcome of Moyes's decisions.
