2025/26 David Moyes

He’s got us three points off a Champions League spot with the two teams above us next to play.

I mean, I’m struggling to see the negatives to be honest. If you don’t think that’s a massive improvement over the last half a decade then I suggest you go to the car park, climb back in your spaceship and go back to your home planet.
Think performance wise, this is exactly the sort of position he has historically failed in. Whether he will this time we’ll know soon enough after those games, but I don’t think anyone can argue there hasn’t been a massive improvement.
The proof will be if he can shrug off his nearly man persona and if he doesn’t are we just going to get his greatest hits of excuses.

NB thats not to say it was expected he should be challenging for 5th / CL but the bottom line is we are, so can he do it or not…..

It's not enough to give him credit for getting us into the position to achieve Champions league footy so instead he's now going to be labelled a failure if he doesn't massively overachieve.

Very fair stuff this.

What would be your take IF we plumetted and finished 13th?

What would be your take IF we finished 8th?

What would be your take if we finished 5th?

What a moronic question.

We don’t need to deal in “what if’s” when with 7 games to go we’re in with a shout of Europe.

When was the last time we were in with a shout of Europe with 7 games to go?

This isn’t FIFA on easy mode. No club in the league has made the season on season progression we have, yet you’re still crying we might finish 13th. A position that in the last 5 years we’d of walked over hot coals to achieve.

Embarrassing.

Edit* a laughing emoji response will prove you have no answer and you’re just a Moyes hating cretin.

Isn’t getting Europe still a massive ‘what if’ at this stage though?
Kind of contradicting your own point no?

There's nothing been achieved yet in this season. NOTHING.

We have 7 games where we could:

A/ drop out of the top half
B/ remain top half but not qualify for Europe
C/ qualify for Europe

The season will be judged at the end of May when we know where we finished.

This is part of the issue with Moyes and the mindset he instils imo.
Get patted on the back when things go well, but when the chips are down should he fail to see through the pretty momentous performance he’s achieved, it will be dismissed for all the usual reasons.
This squad cost blah blah (conveniently ignoring market value of the squad)
It was too much to expect to go from 13th to 8th to CL…. (Erm looks like we could)

Bottom line is, there’s an opportunity there, can he seize it or not.
‘Not’ doesn't make him a failure, but it would add credibility to his reputed ability ceiling.

You and Dave may not of understood the broader point, which is understandable. Everton going from 5 years of relegation battles to being in with a shout of Europe with 7 games to go is a good thing.

I notice you didn’t acknowledge my “no other club has made a better season on season progression” point.

Drop out of the top half? Like Martinez did in 66.7% of his seasons in charge with a much better squad, including an actual striker and full backs.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

Stop talking Everton down.

We're 8th in a rubbish league. THAT isn't worth shouting about unless it comes with a European place and we secure it.

People like you would dumb us down to a no mark club.

Being 8th and in a very real position to challenge for all of the European competitions with 7 games remaining after 3 out of 4 seasons of season long relegation battles is already a massive achievement no matter how poor the league is or where we end up mate.

You some sort of crank? I’ve no idea what the broader convo was nor was I commenting on it.
My point was your post was completely contradictory.
Or are you saying it’s a dead cert we get Europe - in which case it wasn’t?

I clearly stated that “we were in with a shout of Europe” my point was clear. We’ve gone from a club that with 7 games to go would snatch someone’s hands off for 13th to Moyes haters using strawman arguments suggesting not getting Europe would be a failure.

This isn’t FIFA on the PlayStation. We’re in a position where IF (oops) we win the next 2 games we will be in with a real chance/borderline favourites for CL position.

Ironically if I’d of said that 16 months ago, as in within 15 months Everton would be in with a shout of CL with 7 games to go the same posters would’ve laughed.

Thank you, so we are by your own admission in the ‘what if’ territory of getting Europe that you are objecting about.

It’s hardly a failure when the team is performing better than could be reasonably expected!
