Pointless if Southall is in it. Love Jordan but not many from any team in the same conversation as Nev.
Yeah, Southall is the legend, but that's for people to vote.
Pickford is todays legend, whether a vote goes his way or not his name is deserved of any list..

I’d say Southall. Bought for a relative pittance 150k and went onto being world class and the best keeper in the world. Honourable mentions to Reid and Gray. Their experience and leadership helped nurture a relatively young side into being the best in the land and in 85 the best in Europe.

I remember Nev replacing Jim Arnold. Arnold was very good and I could not understand why. I soon did.

Impossible poll really but it is won and lost in midfield. Reid cost very little and was the man when we won titles. The bedrock of a brilliant team. Rooney was not with us long enough 1st time and was the best thing England ever produced, but that was elsewhere.

Poll makes no sense.

Rodriguez was class and great for where we were.

Rooney was class and brought in the money which saved Kenwrights bacon.

Southall, Reid etc are elite players from a different era.

Anyone could choose a number of these players, theres no clear winner other than Southall for being world class and longevity.

That last year we had Richie, he put us on our backs and refused to let us go down. Then we made nice cheddar on his sale.

But we bought Lineker as a striker and strike he did. That contribution in one season has got merit. I think his ability did overshadow how we played and I agree it cost us but what an incredible impact he made. Our finest striker since Dean. Although Latchford is close in my book and Lineker was not here long enough to build an affinity.

….sorry, I thought the thread was about the players who offered most value to the club, there’s some on that list I wouldn’t have in top 100. I loved Lineker but he can’t be one of our greatest value signings if we did better without him. Gareth Farrelly will be remembered more for his impact 😄

Howard Kendall has to be greatest value signing, not only from a playing perspective but that transfer enabled links to the club that brought him back as manager. Andy Gray (along with Peter Reid) transformed the mid-80s team. No Sheedy, no Trevor Steven etc.

Literally cannot be anybody signed after 1986.

Yes we've had plenty of 'bargains' since then; £11m Yakubu whose goals got us into Europe (but we didn't win anything), £1.7m Cahill who become one of the top attacking midfielders in the league for half a decade (but we didn't win anything), £30m Pickford who saved us from relegation twice (but we didn't win anything), £6m Baines who was one of the best left backs in the Premier League era (but we didn't win anything). Even £850k Graeme Stuart whose goal saved us from relegation.

But obviously it's Southall.
