David Moyes thinks Fellaini could become Cahill's long term replacement in the hole.

Personally i think your all making the same mistake most of the PL make - underestimating him, he is a very good footballer and can play in that role. Those saying his stats have been up there with the best since he played there are right. He offers good technical ability, vision in that playmaking role. He also offers physicality in the box and a great foil for Jelly to exploit. He offers work rate and engine as well. I wouldnt want to be up against him and Jelly.

Best of all he offers end product, in his first season he played more or less a similar role of Cahill up front and bagged 9 goals, we also got to a cup final, he has defo improved and is a more well rounded player since then.

Im guessing everyone here wants Barkley, Mofro, Gibbo and Rodwell in the same team, they also want us to buy an attacking creative midfeilder.

you know im convinced theres ppl on here that if moyes signed messi people would give out about moyes for signing him!!!

It's a perfect ruse to get the Neville/Heitinga partnership in play more often. Sometimes you have to move players out of position to get your two best midfielders together in partnership, and in Neville/Heitinga we have a fantastic combination.

Who in here has said he can't play the role ?

He is BETTER as a defensive midfielder, and we should be looking to purchase a creative attacking midfielder with more creativity and a better eye for goal than him. Nobody is saying he is not effective there, but it's like putting an oval shape into a round hole, it might fit but that doesn't mean it belongs there.

Aye dead right, he's a good player in that position, but he's one of the best in the world in his "defensive" position. We painfully need someone creative in the CAM role. Hell, if we lose Baines, I'd chuck Pienaar into that position, he's been instrumental in our play since January, give him more of a license.

Pienaar would be boss there.

Surprised at how badly people are against this. Look at the amount of goals he's been involved in when he's been in and around the box since he's played further forward. Off the top of my head I can straight away list jelavic v sland, jelavic v swansea, pienaar v united, pienaar v newcastle and his goal v united. There's probably more. He's always all over the shop tackling people wherever he plays, this just adds the licence to go forward.

I don't want him at DM at all. Been saying it for months. We've got Gibson now. We don't need another. He's no Messi but to say he's not creative is harsh. He has been heavily involved in a lot of goals i.e. he has been creative.

That said, ideally I'd like him in the middle of the three CMs with someone else in the Cahill role.

I wouldn't say that I don't want him at DM at all but I mostly agree with this post. I'd rather see Fellani play back against the better teams like Man City/Utd/Arse etc and there is nothing to believe that DM won't deploy him there against the big boys.

On the other hand for the rest of the prem I think he's a good option up front. If both he and Jelavic stay healthy Fellani is scoring 10+ prem goals next year. Chalk up his lack of goals this past season to being unlucky, he hit the post/just missed the net an awful lot. That will even itself out, they always do.

The problem last year wasn't giving up goals it was scoring them. We have a crop of quality defenders that is as deep as any team in the prem they could be able to handle the extra pressure. If Fellani can do what he did at the end of the season up front for us then more power to Moyes. Do you really want arguably your most talented player sitting back so that he could break up the likes of Villa's and QPR's fearsome attack?

Exciting times ahead. Fellaini would be perfect sitting in behind Cahill up front on his own. Fellaini is a huge physical presence who will be able to get in amongst defenders and get the ball forward to Tim who will have by then been such a nuisance for defenders up front he will have several chances to score. If this doesn't work after about 75 minutes, bring on Distin in place of Cahill put Fellaini up front on his own and push Neville further on.

Compleatley wrong for me like, hes not even a defensive midfeilder to be perfectly honest. I dont know why people persist with having to define one as DM or Attacking Midfeilder. He is capable of playing of offensively or defensively, its all about the roles the manager assignes. If he is capable of scoring 10 goals a season from an advanced midfeild posititon to supplement a potential 15+ from Jelavic thats a huge impact on the team, position and winning games. Not only that the link up play between Jelavic, Pienarr, Fellini and Osman has been excellent in the last quater of the league and coincided with our most creative and potent period offensively as a team.

I think your being massively unfair on the lad - ovals and what not and am honestly a bit confused that you think he isnt creative. Its unrealistic looking for a creative midfelder capable of topping 10 goals and likely 7-10 assists Felli is capable of a season on our budget, thats up there tbh. We have Heitinga, Neville, Gibson, Rodwell and Barkley all capable of playing a holding or box to box role - you want to sign another central midfeilder - your goging to be dissapointed mate, thats not even beep on next seasons rader.

No sense really.

Thing is Neiler, opinions and all that, but I don't think Fellaini, boss as he is, is capable of 10+ goals and 7-10 assists in that role.

Vaulted at end of season and proven wrong!*
