2025/26 David Moyes

Let's review the context of this discussion.
Marcus: "Nah you're right I usually follow the matches through the forum but I was out in a snooker hall last night and they had the game on so I watched us for a change and I thought we showed them far too much respect. I'm not convinced it would of been a different approach even if we had our first eleven out as I've seen the same movie before with Moyes against the top sides"
Kev "And every other manager we've had since the late 80s."
JC "Not Joe Royle or Ancelotti or Martinez in spells to be fair."
Kev"😂😂😂😂 Revisionism. And Moyes outperformed all of them."

The logic thrust of the argument above is Marcus making the point that Moyes pays top sides too much respect, you basically arguing that its been the same no matter who the manager is since the late 80's. I pointed out that it was not the case under Joe Royle, Ancelotti and Martinez to a limited extent. I think that's pretty clear, and their record bears it out. Your point about revisionism was total rubbish, hence my comment to you. As for Moyes outperformed them all, well that depends on how you analyse things in terms of win percentage he didn't out perform them. Joe Royle actually won a trophy which Moyes never did. Moyes win rate in first spell was 42.9%, Joe Royle's was 44.4% and Ancelotti was 49%, Martinez in his first season was 55.3%, overall dropped to 41.8%. Both Moyes and Martinez got the team to a fa cup final, but Moyes was manager for a lot longer. So yeah you're chatting rubbish about revisionism and your claim that Moyes also outperformed them is also questionable. The basic point here is put David Moyes in charge of Joe Royle's team that he took over in the 94/95 season and does he win the FA cup. Does he f*** because the guy is too conservative and I stand by my comment that he's a coward of a manager.
What should he have done differently against Arsenal Pep? I'm all ears.

And Garner, I think?

Imagine the three of those pick up a yellow in our next game.
We'd then be trying to put out a team without Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Garner, Dewsbury-Hall, Ndiaye, and Gana.

Your right mate he son 4 too - so much for me thinking well O Brien could come across and garner can fill in or at least Garner can play left back.

Be carnage.

Finishing fourth and being 5/6th year in year out.
Year in year out? He got 5/6th the season we finished with our lowest points total ever? That's an interesting take, so is thinking winning the square route of fk all is better than winning the FA Cup.

Didn't we only finish top 6 with him 3 times?

Considering your username, I'd have thought you'd enjoy some actual glory and not mid table crap

Moyes has had 5 top 6 finishes with EFC.
How many times have EFC finished top 6 since 1987 ?
1 under Harvey, 1 under Royle & 1 under Martinez. So 3 times out of the other 25 seasons ?
Excluding 2003/04 he's never had us below 11th.
Not sure what people are expecting for a club that's outspent by 7 or 8 other clubs at least every year repeatedly bar the odd blip.

Big shortage of goals 2 lame CFs other than that he has done well so far .... for a football manager its a results business that decides their fates....

Fair enough, still not year in and year out though, but the context of the discussion is Moyes achieved more than Royle. Imo an FA Cup win is success and as far as I'm aware we don't get a trophy for finishing 6th.

I dont think Grealish would want to risk playing inside in that role. It's a position you can get a lot of tackles from behind from and I doubt he'd want to risk a big injury at this time of the season and this stage of his career. Out wide he can see what tackles are coming his way and he can prepare and ride them out.

He needs rest and he needs better players around him. His outball in recent weeks has been to knock it inside to KDH, but that's not on offer and neither is there any great movement around him and ahead of him.

We need a rested up Grealish and a different LB and/or CF coming here in January.

We are no longer a club in meltdown. Relegation battles are a thing of the past. We have proper ownership now. Not being threatend with extinction is no longer an acceptable ambition.
We are 12 months from being right in the relegation battle. This was the table last year at Christmas.

We are now 10th and 8 points better off.

That's largely thanks to Moyes for turning that around.

Moyes isn’t here without the Friedkins. The takeover changed everything. No Moyes, no KDH, no Grealish, no Branthwaite, probably no Ndiaye, perhaps no Pickford. We were a debt ridden basket case before they stepped in.

Unfortunately money pays the players and 1 higher league place earns about as much as the 6 FA Cup rounds.
Should we as fans celebrate that over an FA Cup triumph? Should the players hold the cheque aloft on their lap of honour because they made the club an extra £500k?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make tbh mate. We're never going to win the prem but we have fans lording over a 6th place finish over an FA Cup.
