Last Film You Watched

'The Batman' - has 'They Live' in it. Something about the three tone shots as well, I liked that bit. 3 hours, like being hanged by the scrotum from tower bridge.
It’s too long. There isn’t enough Bruce Wayne and what there is shows him as being a complete bell. I get that he is “new to the job” but he basically doesn’t solve any of the mysteries he is supposed to given this is supposed to be him as more of a “detective”. Paul Dano just shouts a lot and also is doing quite a good job at clearing up corruption in Gotham.

Some of the dialogue is hilariously bad. The best thing about it was the trailer which was great. Mainly because it captures the two best things in the film, the look and the music.

Nowhere near the level of The Dark Knight, Batman Begins or Burton’s first Batman for me.

It was a problem of it's own making, Dano didn't get any exposition, so we were always playing catchup. Riddling the Riddler seems very clever on paper when you know the story, but the audience didn't. Why is Batman so young and so known to plod?
The 3 tier sepia tones I liked, same the 'They live' references.
Nearly three hours?

Three.

hours.

nic coppola wouldn't pull a nasty so bad. A waste of a reimagination. The photography was excellent, the art direction to. 2/10.

Farrell will do well owning it all next run.

The best thing that came from it was The Penguin tv show which was great.

Also, please try and get over your Nic Cage obsession. Your knowledge of film and TV is better than just resorting to that every few posts. I genuinely enjoy your posts on this stuff but as soon as you go back to that I just switch off. I’m not a massive fan of his by the way, I really like some of the 90’s stuff as it landed at the right time for me age wise so it’s more nostalgia based. I was early teens and seeing convicts on a plane, infiltrating Alcatraz and weird face swap stuff was great.

Maybe that’s more of a me problem than a you problem though to be fair.

Heart felt.

Honest.

Earnest.

It'd take a monster with a heart of steel and veins of ice to ignore such a plea.

nic coppola, the worst thing to happen to film since the pandemic.

Just watched Oh.What.Fun. On Prime, really good cast, new Christmas film, some of the plot points are fairly well trodden, but it is a Christmas film after all.

I agree — it was a really enjoyable watch. The cast did a great job, and even though some of the plot points were familiar, it still felt successful as a Christmas film. It had the right balance of warmth, humor, and festive spirit.

There's pretty lady catwoman I think...

and this guy for background. As he's likely to turn up later, his chronic underuse in this is passable.

Read a review that likened it to 'Se7en meets Silence of the lambs'. It's not nearly as gritty or mean minded as either. If you watch it again any time soon, notice the statements and banners on the streets about improvement and lifting the city out of the grips of poverty and crime, streets that are knackered. I saw this as a parallel to 'They Live'. Anyway.

Thought there was an official the batman ii trailer, but they're all fan ai stuff. Everyone is in them. When the one with davek and Dyche drops, I'll flag it.

Not looking forward to any films with that version of Bats again. Even the suit sucks.

OK kicking off with ‘Nuremburg’.. top film. Great performances, lots of familiar faces and a brilliant script. Crowe employing another accent isnt so grating as his Italian priest phase, the hero here is the sharp script and respectful tone.

‘Die, My Love’.. now this is going to either be a movie you embrace, understand and enjoy.. or it will make you assault the first cardboard cutout poster on the way out of the cinema after 20 minutes. I’m firmly in the former and its not just because of J Law getting her baps out on the regular. Its a mesmerising experimental film, with heavy themes, superb performances and cinematography that are all next level. Give it a bash but don’t expect this to be a neat, linear tale.

What else.. ‘Running Man’ .. does exactly what it says on the tin. Keeps this horribly miscast action stonker chugging along in a bizarre future world run by corporate greed but fails to really capture the style, comedy and kitsch of the original.

Haven’t seen the other two yet but I liked Running Man more than I thought I would. It’s not particularly good but I was expecting much worse.

I liked some of the things they tried with the new out in the open setting and him finding some weird allies along the way. But one of things that I liked so much about the original was the individual showdowns with the “hunters”. That doesn’t really happen in this one at all.

It weirdly actually makes more sense to do it that way but being a fan of the original it annoyed me a bit.

I wonder why they ditched that.. it added much more depth to the ‘baddies’. Thinking about it I was expecting some flamboyant names to be hunting him down and was def disapointed It was one guy wearing a balaclava.

It was stupid. I wonder if it was to lean into the fact that anyone is technically an enemy to the Running Man in the social media world where people can either tip off the hunters or just do it themselves. But a huge part of the original was the hunter characters with different looks and styles. In this they are just a homogenous group with one of them wearing a balaclava to make him more important.

I guess the balaclava is at least explained by him being a former runner so I’ll give them that I guess

House of Dynamite. I liked it better than most. Far from a perfect film, it was a good watch and I didn't mind the third act which many don't like. It was edge of your seat stuff for me and the time flew by. 7.5/10

Frankenstein. Meh. All the technical stuff was good to great. Didn't love it though. 6.5/10

Got around to watching Weapons. 9/10
