Beer, revisited

Ah nice, there was definitely a chance we would have bumped into each other

Yeah, I'd agree. Pre-haze and no cheesecake beers. Remember when Mad Hatter brought out the tzatiki beer and it was the craziest beer of all time? Gaz was great, we had a few good nights out together
I could never get my head around whether I liked it or not. They sold it in the Baltic, and I'd always be drawn to getting a bottle.

Same mate... I've dialed it back loads with the IPA's,to heavy on hops.

Beak and Baron brew are still doing some lovely stuff mind.

Single hopped subtle beers for me lately...I've actually been drinking a shed load of Tim Taylors,Landlord of late.
I really like Landlaord, however quite a few people I drink with complain about it even though we usually have very similar tastes.

The problem with Landlord, is that with it being sold so very widely, that a lot of places don`t look after it properly or don`t know how to serve it properly in the first place.

You know when you`ve got a good one, as it`s like nectar.

Tetley`s cask is very similar.

Gaz's brewing stretched across the whole spectrum so while there where drops that weren't necessarily to my taste, others I'd really like.

The biggest thing for me with Landlord is how it's kept and it's conditioning.

The Roscoe's Head is probably the best expression of it you can find,They've even got Timothy Taylor,Landlord seal of approval.

It's that's good in Roscoe's I've managed to turn a couple of mate onto cask ale due to fact Landlord in there is so good in there.

You know when it`s a good pint, as it doesn`t taste " dry ".

He was always inconsistent, even between batches, but it's kind of what you expected with his beers and part of the fun

He probably wouldn't get away with being like that now, which the price of everything, but you could see how it was possible back then

I had occasion to pop into the Roscoe Head this evening, and a good time was had by all.
To my my delight a mild was on, and it was very nice indeed. Drinkable doesn't do it justice.

Tbh, I've never had a mild which wasn't dark, but maybe I'm not up with the current zeitgeist. The excellent news is that they will have a mild on throughout the winter months. The next couple are going to be from Holts and Titanic.

I also had the best porter I've ever had ; Coleys Yuletide Porter. Most porters that I've had are normally of a chocolatey bent, this had a myriad of flavours, absolutely feckin delicious. If you're passing you've got to try it.

Both breweries, which I haven't before come across, are from the Manchester region.

I've had a few ruby milds of late and they're definitely recognisable as a mild, different from copper, amber and even red ales.

'Tis the season for stupidly namedChristmas named beers. This was the best, quite fruity, and I'm not usually one for those types, but it was very nice.

Next, this :

Subsequently discovered that this is brewed by Greene King, very duplicitous to my mind's eye. Saying that it was very drinkable. On the side of a darker bitter, wouldn't choose it again though due to the disingenuous marketing.

And finally :

This is their blurb :

'Historically the term used to describe a porter blended from a variety of ales, entire butt uses 14 different malts and 3 hops to recreate this forgotten style of porter. The beer is black/brown with a crisp white head and is distinctly vinuous. It has little hop character as essentially the flavour is derived from the malts. Malts used: pale Maris Otter, lager, wheat, pale crystal, dark crystal, dark chocolate, pale chocolate, black, roasted barley, caramalt, torrified wheat, amber malt, brown malt and malted oats.'

In actuality it was weak, insipid, lacked body, and what taste it had wasn't very nice. Compared to the porter I had earlier this week in the Roscoe Head, it was like night and day, avoid.
