2025/26 Thierno Barry

He will come good.

To be 20ish and be the line striker in the premier League is a big ask. Least of all to do it for Everton which is even harder.

I view this period as the necessary exposure needed to grow.

I have faith
20ish year old players do it every year mate, it's not that big an ask if he's good enough.

Lads, you can call it growth if you like but the word I'm using for no goals by December is Crap, because that's what it is.

It's a shame and I don't hold it against him personally, but be honest here, he's badly crap.

Beto is badly crap but at least had the threat of a goal in him if he gets clear and has all day to place it. Barry isn't even showing this level to me. He could play all season and huff and puff without a goal from the looks of what we've seen.

He could legitimately have about 5 pl goals now. Tap in v Palace he just missed completely, the one v Sunderland he hit too hard over the bar, Tarkwoski offside v Fulham, marginal handball v Bournemouth, even the header that the keeper has called out under the post

This is all whilst he’s adapting to the league. Even if he’d mis hit a few of those he’d have one or two now. That tells me be’s getting into positions to score. The goals will follow.
This is desperation.

It's December and he's just had his first shot on target.

Getting into good positions is the new "His hold up play is amazing" or "he runs the channels really well".

He's meant to be scoring goals and he can't even hit them at the keeper.

I’m half in the camp of he’s crap… but I’d prefer to go with “he’s badly in need of a goal” camp.
Centre forwards always say that getting that first goal when joining a club or after a barren spell becomes the be all and end all!
Added to that he has got a goal scoring record, he’s young and in another country…. I’m still hopeful. It hasn’t helped that Beto has been crap too and he’s got more pressure on him for that! In an ideal world he’d be coming off the bench and introduced gradually.

I don’t say it to knock him but it’s worth pointing out he’s 23. That’s 20ish when you're talking about life in general but not really when you’re talking about a footballer.

You'll all be dead embarrassed when he's earned his move to Munich to replace Kane, scores 70 a season, and wins the ballon d'or.

I'm confident that Thierno Barry will come good for us and get the odd goal here and there, but he'll not be prolific by any means. Just my opinion, like.
Is getting the odd goal here and there a striker coming good though? That seems more law of averages than actually doing a job.

To give him some credit, his hold up play is improving but he doesn’t seem close at all to actually scoring a goal.

All the lovely control of passes counts for naff all of he doesn't do anything with the ball when he gets it.

I judge strikers on their ability to put the ball in the back of the net first and foremost.
"lovely control of passes" Are we talking / watching a different player?
