I don't think anybody who wasn't happy at the dumb cup exit has forgotten it at all. I was pleasantly surprised by the Man U game, enough to start to think he might actually do something different....but it didn't stop me wanting to kick him in the balls for throwing the league cup game.
Even if somebody is happy to have Moyes here you can still be honest and recognise that specific comment about Newcastle needing an off night was very very Moyes and is of course going to wind up fans who have heard that kind of thing multiple times over many seasons with him. I am sure a common reaction was I cannot believe he has actually said that, as its like directly poking at a wound.
Instead I'm reading comments saying posters are wound up because we expect Europe or aren't happy that he said Newcastle are better than us. It's all very silly
FWIW I competely agree with the bit about a large part of the fan base feeling wound up by the comment (and FWIW I'm inclined to agree with them to
some degree), I just dont think it was that major a thing overall. I thought the response to meekly and timidly going out the League Cup with a surrending whimper -and then doubling down on it a few days later when he could have said "yeah we should have done better" or "might have got that wrong"- was beyond unfathomable, worthy of seething, and a major wipe out of all the good credit he built.
All that said and done, if we beat B'mouth midweek and we're 8th-ish ahead of the December run, I don't think there will be tooooo many grumbles. In fact, the narrative will probably be "new era Everton" because we've finally beaten our bogey team just like it was when we won at Old Trafford. Wasn't a great comment by
Moyes, but very much storm-in-a-tea-cup for me.
