2025/26 Seamus Coleman

He's a glorified cheerleader, Dave. He definitely adds something to Ireland because we are a very callow side with a huge quality deficit. His leadership and experience has a role there - albeit a limited one. Remember this: Coleman left the pitch with Ireland 2-1 down in Budapest. He had nothing to do with the miraculous recovery, just as he had nothing to do with last night's miracle.

He spent the whole of the two Ireland matches parked by his own corner flag in a 7 or 8 man defence, a donkey (which is what he is actually) could do it.

When he got the ball he either kicked it out, kicked it backwards or kicked it straight to the other team (as usual). He offered precisely ZERO in an attacking sense, par for the course.

He's scored one goal for Ireland in about 15 years and that was a total fluke although I'd give him 10 out of 10 for determination in that particular play, to be fair.

As for influence in either dressing room, any young player with half a brain would want to swerve his tired line of patter (and I'd say most of them do) it's getting old at this stage and frankly weird.

We need winners in both teams not perpetual losers. Can't wait to see the back of him, he's like the turd 💩 that never flushes.

Starting him is what is causing the lows. I'm amazed Moyes picked him last night. That's surely the end of doing that now.

I don't think he'd have started if he wasn't feeling right and would've told Moyes so; was probably on a high from the last couple of weeks...but, at his age, more 💩 happens at that level. He didn't crawl off the field but might've felt enough to know he shouldn't push it. Who knows. 🤷‍♂️

I mean, he's lots of form for either picking up injuries on international duty, or coming back from international duty and then getting injured because he's been overworked due to his lack of minutes for us — it's hardly rocket science.

That said, I've never seen as many players talk about his leadership as much as I have this season, so I am fine with him still being here.

But he shouldn't be starting games for us when we have Garner who can go to right back and Iroegbunam who can slot into midfield. Obviously that's not a first choice option, not better than starting an unreliable Seamus.
