2025/26 Michael Vincent Keane

Mate where is Keane looking when Gueye plays the ball to him?

Keane wasn't expecting that ball from Gueye.

Gueye also had plenty of opportunity to clear it himself and didn't need to play that pass blindly at all

He's got plenty of time to clear it there. It was a very stupid pass and he's the one at fault for playing it.

So rewind that screen shot a second earlier and you see keane run into the box and motion for the pass. Which makes his mistake even worse if he asks for the pass then turns his head away from the ball. Then when he looks at the ball just stands there and does nothing.

How does he have plenty of time to clear it? Hes runing onto the ball and your screenshot clearly shows theres a player running at him to close him down.

Aslo if you look at the first screenshot. Loom at where keane is, look at where the ball is and look at where fernades is and look at the body shapes of the players.

Now tell me how fernandes is the first to that ball and gets a unchallenged shot off and tell me with a straight face that it isnt keanes fault

More just the angle of the pass from Gana - those blaming Keane.

Matters little we got the 3 points and id hazard a guess the red fired us up more.

That’s the first time I’ve seen it again and exactly as I thought at the time. It’s a loose pass end of. Been a centre back in that position, split second to decide whether to dive in and commit to trying to win the ball or stand off and stay in the game.

Thought he was very very good last night, particularly after that incident. Been excellent this season.

Yep he’s caught between trying to stop the shot and not wanting to dive in to risk a penalty. All his weight is going the other way when Gana plays it because - shockingly - he’s not expecting a square ball in his own box.

If you watch that Gana can easily get rid of it if he was minded to. Whoever is blaming Keane is purely still on their agendas here.

Imagine hating Keane that much, you try and blame him for that.

Some weird hombres on here la.
this is genuinely happening. Ive seen it on fan channels people actually blaming keane. Absolutely mad, the guy was just standing there and Gueye got right up in his face and keane pushed him away. Thats all Keane did and what else is he supposed to do?

That being said we should forgive Gueye instantly for this. He and a few others like Pickford were instrumental in keeping us up in the last 5 years in our lowest eb and one small (in the end uncostly) mistake shouldnt matter.

But for me Keane has been player of the season so far. 7 or 8 out of 10 performances in pretty much every game with the odd 9

Gueye's pass to Keane was a bit risky, but also, Keane should've made some effort to get to it.

Keane shouldn't have shoved Gueye, Gueye shouldn't have slapped him.

Ref shouldn't have sent him off.

Lots of blame to go round, I think.
Making some effort to get it would basically mean diving into a tackle in his own box, at Old Trafford. That would not have been a good choice. You could possibly argue that in an ideal world where we the sort of team who often played pretty football in our own box, Gana was an excellent and reliable cute passer of the ball, and Keane was a buccaneering centre half known for bringing the ball out of defence, Keane would have been asking for the ball in that position and so there was some blame on him for not doing so, but in the real world it's just absolutely not on him at all. It's a poor decision and poorly executed from Gana, and I say that as an absolutely massive fan of his.
