2025/26 David Moyes

Nah, I'd accept another six months of this and that's it. We're stable then. If not, Moyes should be sacked anyway. Keeping him beyond this season is time wasting.

Only issue is we had a history of chopping and changing managers and every 2nd season we were flirting right down at the foot of the table.

I'm suggesting we learn to walk before we can run, each season we will improve the quality of squad because Moyes will take us in that direction. That leads to a far stronger foundation for the next person, so hopefully even the 'wrong' manager would still have us in a reasonable position. Take the training wheels off next summer and we could find ourselves flat on our arses. Ask West Ham how that is going for them.

Meanwhile Glassner has saved Palace from relegation, won the FA cup and got Palace challenging for top 4. In short we are wasting our time with a second rate manager.

I wouldn't use CP as a valid comparison mate, they don't have the pressure or baggage that exists here. They also had a very good side, where we only have the beginnings of one. Not to say Glassner couldn't do a good job here, but let's give the new bloke half a chance to succeed.

If Moyes flatlines then fair enough we need to look to replace, whilst we continue to see progress on the pitch, it's better he stays.

Lots of sense here. I think a lot of the fans are still scarred by the Moshiri era and rightly so. Moyes we will be steady under but as a fan you always wonder if we can reach for the stars so the fans who want a change have good intentions too

If we have chance to gamble on someone like Ancelotti, then I have no problem with it. I fully endorsed Moshiri blowing the budget on the chance we could shortcut the years of building. If we are just going to replace for the first progressive manager off the rank who has had 1 or 2 good seasons, then I think it's too much of a risk, at this stage.

I don't think Ancelotti is a good fit personally as he works best with elite players and he's not much of a developer of youth talent and it looks like that's our strategy going forward judging by the summer purchases

If that's the plan then we have the wrong guy in charge now though. There is zero point in the youth development thing unless you have a head coach in charge (not a manager type) It needs to be someone whos focus is the training ground and the development of players and team tactics. Also a good compliment of backroom staff who can offer specialized support in different areas, we currently have a small backroom team and the likes of Irvine are even older than Moyes!

I agree Simon. I think TFG see Moyes as a manager who will bring stability but will have plans ahead for the future. Though with TFG being uncommunicative I'm aware this is complete guesswork on a personal hunch

or your slowly moving
We have been doing that for years though. There comes a point where enough is enough. We have good players and they are being misused badly imo. We simply must draw/win tomorrow as we are starting to slide and others are picking points up. I know he still has his little fan girl squadron on here but he isn't the answer mate, he is too stubborn for the modern game imo.

You're right but that's kind of my point. You either get a manager who players will come to us just because of them, to skip over the building phase, (just needs to be done properly this time) or you have to take the pain of starting that development cycle.

We know from Moyes that a load of players didn't want to come this summer, due to the noise (to quote a former manager) around the club. Not that we had the same problems with the ownership, but if you've had constant negative press and years fighting relegation, it sticks.

If we finish 9th this season, everyone can see we have a pattern of reversing that trend, get European football or improve again the following season to get it, then we have far greater pull in the market.

You need a steady hand on the tiller to ensure that development cycle bears fruit. If it fails and suddenly you have to change tact then you're back to square one. That's what we've been fighting for the last 5 odd years and why I'm amazed people think sacking the manager is the right course.

A lot of good points and sensible reasoning. I agree for the short-term Moyes is fine as you'll get stability but hopefully our higher ups have a long-term strategy and are looking at the managers out there who can deliver on their vision. Otherwise as you say we'll just go from one type of strategy to another having a squad of missmashed players
