You don’t think a decent striker gives us a strong chance of finishing Top 8?
We should and could have got those players in the summer. Same with 8th place this should have been our target this year. I wouldn't trust Moyes with any more money if I was TFG.
If they’d have let Moyes spend we’d probably have a decent striker by now. Unfortunately our 30 man recruitment/DOF bods decided to get Barry.
I say we make do this season and go again in the summer. I know that seem unambitious but I would rather we develop some of the talent we've invested in than go hell for leather for an outside chance of Europe/short term gain.
That's what all of the clubs we aspire to be have done. Bournemouth, Brighton, etc etc.
The managers wet dream that would be, its a lot of money though.![]()
Everton 'prepare' record-breaking £62m offer for ex-Man Utd star Scott McTominay — Football365
Everton are ready to break their transfer record to sign former Man Utd midfielder Scott McTominay from Serie A giants Napoli, according to reports.apple.news
LOL
We're a good centre half away from a top 8 finish, not a centre forward
Concede way too many big chances in games, concede way too many goals
I think it proves the opposite mate, i think it shows a lack of insight into players, teams and league in general and goes back to my original point of not being dogmatic in approach in recruitment demographics.
We had and still have one of the highest average ages of a PL squad, in the league - it definitely needed a ground level injection of youth, problem with that is its slow burning, so now we have an age cliff from Gana down to Aznou and lacking in the middle demographic say 27 -31. That shows in performance and experience and ultimately will be in league position
Its your feeling on ambition and competing in immediacy - sure you pay players for now - but success = success - its on the same logic at Grealish, is he worth 15 mill? What's the point of him really if we are just going to be 10th to 14th? at 31! Based on your rationelle its not clever and a waste of time to have him. But really whats the actual pont of him - unlesss you want to achieve somethign now and that were the 27-31 years old come in.
Frankly if you dont think Xaka or Henderson or Soucek and even Longstaff dont improve us you both haven't been watching us or them this season and the impact they have had in competing in this league. Even Arsenal are rocking Christian Norgarrd.
I find it fascinating that people are so wedded to the buy young thing, i understand the principal and all, but its self abusive to be so dogmatic about it, the best model is clearly a balanced one amongst the ages. Really you wan 3/4 level age steps blended in a squad.
How are Forest looking this season mate? And what are Villa's finances and prospects looking like over the next few years?I wonder if the fans of Newcastle, Villa and Forest were constantly dismissing their possibility of qualifying for Europe during the seasons when they... wait for it... actually qualified for Europe after having a crap season the year prior?
Were Evertonians dismissing the possibility of qualifying for Europe in 04/05, and harping on about five year plans that never work because the landscape constantly changes every single season in the world of football? I don't think they were. I can remember us singing "We're all going on a European tour" very early on during that season.
The idea that we are 250 years away from qualifying for Europe is nonsense. Forest achieved it last season FFS. A competent striker transforms this team, and would put us in contention for Europe!
We won't be able to afford him after that goalWe are not after McTominay.
