AI in the Workplace

My job involves writing reports that have a realistic possibility of being scrutinised in court. No one thinks getting AI to write it is in anyway a good idea. But..
my employers actually monitors AI use and we get told off for not using it.
Thankfully I am at an age were i can ignore the nonsense and not feel threatened as would be happy to go.
But my younger colleagues I do feel sorry for trying to jump through the hoops.

Couldn't find a suitable/similar thread, but just wondering if anyone is starting to be concerned by the heavy usage of AI in their workplace.

I work in the construction industry but more project management/controls side of things and I am astounded at how many emails and reports I am receiving that have clearly got chatGPT's sweaty fingerprints all over it.

There's a young girl in my company that's recently been nominated for Apprentice of the Year for her portfolio work and I know for a fact it has all come from chatGPT.

I don't use AI myself as I think once I start I won't stop and I'm dumb enough as it is these days just from access to Google.

Anyone else a little unnerved by how dominating it's becoming? Does your company have ways to detect usage of AI?

Hell, even MS Teams keeps telling me to use their inbuilt Copilot system just when I'm chatting to someone.
And it is often incorrect. It is machine learning. True AI does not yet exist. Sadly tbe profit of this tech reliance will not be shared. A tech revolution requires a social revolution and governments do not have the balls. Tech and neo liberal economics have combined to make us work harder, lack security and no real terms increase in pay. Society is crumbling and these mostly american bastards need bringing under control.

The AI potential is really exciting. I use it daily for work and far from replacing me, it allows me to work more efficiently. AI will prevent the need to hire lots more people but even pre-AI I was always looking to streamline. I'm looking at minimal headcount growth but it won't create layoffs. If anything, my people will do things that create real value rather than spending time doing data entry and reading through long email chains. Their work experience should be enhanced as they do more worthwhile tasks. It's already generating significant tangible monetary benefits for my teams.

Use it and embrace it or you're right, it will replace you.

Did AI write this? Unless you own your own company here, this is an insane take. Even then you're putting yourself in the hands of billionaires who would do anything to break free from the rest

How can you use it daily and then says it's not replacing you, it's replacing your thought. If work for someone else and embrace AI you deserve what is coming to you.

Yes, it's incredibly useful but needs a driver to steer it in the right direction. And yes, it can be incredibly stupid which is exactly why you need a human to oversee it. It can provide a lot of value if used in the right places.

The people refusing to use it are putting themselves in a position where they have the least knowledge. That in itself leaves them open to being replaced.
And what happens when the next generation of drivers doesn't learn how to drive because they're expecting the computer to do it?

Because that's what's happening with the kids. They don't learn enough to be able to validate and verify the quality of AI work, they just trust it wholesale.

pensioners with failed eyesight as taxi drivers, what a perfect solution.

Because you can use it for more tasks instead of "think for me"?

What is this bizarre notion that using chatgpt makes you forget how to think - it's a tool, if you use it as a tool, it's definitely not replacing your thought. If you're not using it as a tool, you're using it wrong, but this can also be said about many tools.

I work in Projects, and we are encouraged to use it.

I mainly use it for checking emails before I send them to either senior management or suppliers. I like it as it can be very useful.

Outside of the workplace I use it to create pics of my mates to ridicule them for stuff they've said in the past, then stick them on the WhatsApp group. One of the lads said years ago that he once saw a UFO, so most of them are UFO/alien related. Which I think is what AI was really meant for.
Can I ask what the AI is checking the emails for?

Beyond a basic spell check I don't understand this.

Because there's a particular person that doesn't think for themselves anymore if they don't know something they take whatever Google AI or ChatGPT says as gospel truth.

They aren't seeing it as a tool but as something that can do the thinking and work for them.

It is replacing the skills required to identify and find reliable information and critically evaluate sources of information in certain people.
