2025/26 David Moyes

Hes paid big money to win games.
He knows what he has available so its up to him to adjust accordingly.
We have 2 wide players as productive as any in the league.
We need to utilise that.
I think he is here until the summer. And then changes will be made .
All we do is utilise that and that’s the problem. We have zero threat through the middle of our team so our wingers just end up doubled up. We need to start Alcaraz in the 10 now.

We are a quarter of the way into the season.

Out of the league cup to a team who hasn't won in the league.

Out of the three promoted teams we have one more point than the mighty Burnley.

One win in the last seven games and that was against Palace. We got lucky in that first half to be only behind by one.

I thought our motto is " Nil Satis, Nisi Optimum " Not " Other than the scoreline it was an even game "

All the things you've mentioned are very normal for Everton in a lot of people's lifetimes. Whether you're a fan of the club or not, it's more of a surprise for us actually to be doing well.

I hear you but Barry has put in some shocking performances. So bad that you couldn't justify starting him the next game. If Moyes did play him more, then we'd all say he's ruining the lad's confidence. There's no easy answer to a young player that was brought in to start most games but clearly isn't ready yet.

He'll probably start up at Sunderland after a better cameo yesterday, but we can't honestly say that'll likely go well.
He's had some stinkers for sure. Not as many as Beto, but has at times looked a step off the pace and short of confidence. Which, you know, probably makes sense given the circumstances. Everybody's different of course but I just can't imagine that a show of faith from the manager would harm his confidence more than barely starting, getting dragged at half-time every time he does and hearing the manager publicly tell the world regularly that he's not good enough.

And you're right, it might not go well at Sunderland if he starts. In fact it probably won't! But the only way for him to improve, or at the very least for us to find out what he's capable of, is for us to have the courage to swallow some poor performances while he learns. I wouldn't be advocating for this if it was prime Lukaku starting in front of him, but we already know everything we need to know about Beto.

Fewer excuses than after Wolves, I think the worm has turned for quite a few after today but certainly plenty saying we played well, or the problem is the owners, or the players, or the referees, or the mythical conspiracy against us. More than one poster, although @JobForTheMoyes is still fighting the good fight more than most, despite his statements to the contrary. The we'd be top 4 with Ivan Toney is my personal favourite.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and for me Moyes isn’t the long term issue at this club we have had one window to fix things it’s a work in progress. I can’t even be arsed arguing with the anti Moyes brigade truth is there entitled to there opinion to. It’s tiresome to the point of losing interest in even posting to the contrary.

Team needs a shake up it’s gone stale, he’s not got the balls to do it though, he’ll stick to the same tired formula

I think you're right. Moyes has his good points but one of his bad ones is he sticks to what he see's as tried and tested.
And i think with players if he doesnt fancy them it comes through. said in the player thread at the start of the season i feared for Alcarez. Almost everytime i see him play through the middle he causes problems for the opposition. But he clearly doesnt trust him. its a bit like soucek at west ham. Their fans were tearing their hair out as he played him no matter what as he was a moyes favourite
He can be stubborn once he's made his mind up.
Imo he is completely ruining Alcaraz.

Oh the worm always turns on here. The most vocal posters on here are among the most knee jerk and reactionary lot you'll ever hear from. There's never any medium ground with them on managers. The boss is either our lord and saviour blessing us and the greatest man that ever lived. Or he's a waste of space and isn't fit to manage a bunch of drunks having a kick about in the park. I wouldn't take the loudest voices on here very seriously, they rarely reflect the feelings of GOT, never mind our match going and winder fan base.

The Alcaraz situation annoys me, he finished the season well last season , good goal at Newcastle , changed game against Palace, pushed outwide against City and only comes on 85min yesterday.

He ran the show at Newcastle last season through the centre. Their midfield and centre halves never knew how to pick him up.
To me it sealed the deal. Give him an extended run there. He's a clever player with ability and pops in goals.
I cant work Moyes out other than he just doesnt fancy him.

Sunderland will be a huge test of his approach imo. It's obvious to everyone that his current go-to XI needs a shake up. I'll be so generous as to say it's not his fault that it ended up needing changing - we have unavoidable holes in the squad that mean some experimenting was always going to be needed to figure out what actually works best.

But can he be both brave and clever enough to implement the needed changes?

I really don’t want him sacked, I think that’s crazy talk. He’s done a fine job in the main since returning to us.

Do I think he’s using the available players and squad as effectively as he could - definitely not. The options he keeps picking aren’t performing in the shape he continues to select, it’s maddening. Tactically we are very limited - teams just shut ndiaye and Grealish out/double up and that’s us done.

Shape and personnel have to change imo, and the next two games are huge now, due to our poor recent form, when they didn’t need to be. If he goes with the same again then I can see problems.

We need to be looking to win both tbh, which won’t be easy - minimum 4 points or Daveys in a spot of bother.
