Relegation Thread 25-26

I’ve just looked at our fixtures up to the new year. I’d advise absolutely everyone not to do that btw.
Unfortunately I have...and i am concerned...we just need a results against a Sunderland in form team, simple...anything else and we are in the fight.

Wasn't it the same last year? Dycheball needed to be put out of its misery yet he still got draws off Arsenal, Chelsea and Man. City in three of his final five games.

Grealish and Ndiaye will get more space against those opponents. My big worry though is what sort of backline is going to be put out as Branthwaite is a massive miss when you play a top 7 team without him.

There are 6 points between 3rd and 15th and we’ve played 9 games including arguably the two toughest games of the season. Things could go either way but if Ndiaye and Grealish stay fit (apart from Ndiaye going to AFCON), we shouldn’t be anywhere near.

Today was pivotal. A win and we were looking up. A loss and we are looking down. Win at Sunderland and we can take plenty of comfort. But lose there and the trend is only pointing one way.

The Fulham game is probably bigger, the next few away games are tough but we should be looking for wins in all the upcoming home games apart from maybe the Arsenal one.

I think we’ll be fine but - as I’ve said in recent seasons too - it’s easy for anyone other than the top sides to be dragged into a relegation battle if things don’t go well. If your expected position is 10th-12th it really doesn’t take much of a downturn to find yourselves looking over your shoulder. No clean sheet in 6 games against PL opposition and 2 non penalty goals scored in 7 is not the sort of form that lends itself to laughing off talk of a relegation battle.
