2025/26 Thierno Barry

Maybe. I dont wanna write the lad off just yet, but for me, I don't even see any real greenshoots or positive signs. Early days, but so far it looks like we've spent £27m on Chermiti 2.0

Reckon Chermiti will have a better career when all said and done.

There is a goal on it (3rd goal) where he outmuscles the centre half, powers through with pace in on goal and finishes superbly.

Everything we haven't seen AT ALL in any minutes hes had so far for us, he shows it in that one goal. At the minute he looks like he'd struggle to get past a 5 year old child.

AI does wonders

I’d start him for the next three matches and hope he finds a bit of form!

Definition of insanity.

Between Gibb, Chuckle, and the one from Eastenders, it looks like we've somehow ended up with the worst of all possible Barrys 🙃

Perfectly put

spurs paid more for mathys tel whos not pulling up trees either

our league is defo not easy for any young player coming into a new team
even isak needs time

moyes bought barry this season as he wants to play higher up
he admitted they are not playing to beto’s strengths this season
so hes gotta make up his mind re tactics and first choice striker

I was beginning to wonder have we done a "George Weah cousin" situation, as to me he had done nothing that for some reason to me makes people think he deserves to play. Just doing anything would be a start, I dont get this give him a run in the side stuff when he has looked truly not even a football player pretty much the whole time hes been with us
He has scored double figures every season he has ever played.

I reckon there is a bit more than George Weahs cousin there, we (and Barry himself) just need to find a way to bring it out

A quick check of the wiki tells me he's got 61 total goals in 134 games which would suggest he's better than Ali Dia, however all but 11 of those goals came in games played in the lower French league, lower Belgium league and the Swiss league. With context, I'm not sure how much you can really take from that.

For comparison Beto arrived here having scored 22 goals in 65 games for Udinese which is a decent return for a ~£25m player from Serie A, but the eye test tells you he's just never going to cut it as a first choice Prem striker for any team aiming to be top-half. Early days, but Barry doesn't even look Beto's level.

On the contrary, the best ever to play the game* made his name stats padding some Swiss farmers in that league.

*Hyperbole

Just saying that sometimes it means you can take talent from any league. I'm sure Kante was "found" by our good friend Walsh in Ligue 2.

Obviously a quality player could be playing in any league but that wasn't the point they were making, it was that him having a decent goalscoring record in lower leagues doesn't necessarily tell us anything about whether he's got the ability to play at this level. Talk about Ali Dia and whatever is clearly just waffle but we should also be wary of not falling into the trap of insisting that he's clearly going to come good and anybody thinking there's a possibility of that not happening can only be an impatient idiot etc. I've seen people on here go absolutely all in on players, saying anyone who can't see what they can see clearly doesn't understand football, only for them to sink like a stone.

After Frank became the Coventry manager, I go on the main Coventry forum after their games, to see what`s going on, as I like to see how he`s doing.

I don`t watch their games, so can only go by what they`re saying about Simms on that forum and hardly any of it is positive.

If he`s not cut out for the Championship and it seems to be only a matter of time, until he`s sold to a league one club or goes back to the SPL.

You`ve also got to remember, that when we sold Simms, we were slowly sliding towards administration and you get the feeling that the sale of Simms for a half decent fee, wasn`t something we were really in a position to turn down.

I do agree though, that since Lukaku went, our recruitment of strikers has been shockingly bad.
I know a Coventry fan and asked him about Simms a month or so ago. He said he looked average when they first got him, had a purple patch where everything he touched went in, and is now back to being average. Also said he's very lightweight for a big fella.

To be fair, the context there is he's gone up a league level every year for the last 3 years straight, and continued to score double figures every time (this year is uh....let's be kind and say TBC). Can't ask for more than that, it's hardly stats farming.

I think you're right about the eye test/gut reaction. Its obviously not an exact science as you get some who improve. You also get lots that dont.
When we signed Ndiaye i remember thinking after two games yeah im having a bit of him.
So far ive seen literally nothing of Barry that says we've bought well.
Hope im massively wrong.
