I read a statistic yesterday that Moyes has never beaten a team that finished in the top 3 from the previous season. That is staggering and clearly shows that both he and we are beaten before these fixtures even kick off.

That stat isn't true though, where did you read it??

We beat United at Goodison a few times in the era where they were winning it or going close every year. One example is the 1-0 win on the first day of the season when Fellani scored a header. Just looked that up and United had finished second on goal difference the season before. There were wins against Man City in that period too - Darren Gibson 1-0, the 2-0 where Jelavic scored late on etc

It is amazing given the stature of the club the need for decent forward has been an issue for decades, with the notable exception of Lukaku. In the vast majority of seasons the Everton top scorer rarely gets close to 20 goals

I’ve made that point several times in the past. Lukaku is literally a one off for us, certainly in the PL era. We get the odd striker who might have 1 great season (20+) but that’s all, 1 season, DCL, Yakubu etc. We never replaced him because most teams don’t have players of that calibre and we were incredibly fortunate to get him in the first place.

But also, throughout the history of the PL, most seasons it’s averages as 2.9 players who hit 20, and most of the time it’s a player from the top 6.

Just having a striker who consistently gets 10 would be a good starting point for us and we had one in Richie.

Mediocre appointments across the board, mediocre signings, not attending matches.. Just don’t see genuine ambition.

In hindsight now I would have taken Vardy. Might be slowing down but can still finish. Would have been a good option bringing him on when Beto/Barry have tired the defence.

Not comparing the two but remember a 36 year old Larson at United did well they wanted to keep him after a half season loan, but he was too loyal to his boyhood club.

That stat about Moyes does not at all mean that we are besten before kick off. That is not how stats work.
That stat might also be interpreted in another way. Rather than show a Moyes's weakness it could also show how the top teams are better, how they have better players, and even how they get better ref and VAR decisions.

It's how Moyes works and everyone knows what will happen in these games it is nauseatingly predictable. He plays not to lose every single time.
