As said, normal inflation methods just can not be applied to football transfers.
IF THEY COULD . . .
Alan Ball would be an absolute steal at about £2M

As others have suggested, the increase in transfer fees is a function of the increased money sloshing about the Premier League much more than it is of inflation.

The formula you need would multiply by some factor of the increase in average prize money, sponsorship deals etc.

Not sure i have a "Hero" any time any era, but when younger my fav was Kanchelskis. Was going mad when it looked like it was not going to happen after about 5weeks of messing about on fee.Then the day we officially did deal was day i was going on holiday - I didnt want to go on holiday after that
