The cost of your hero today

Bryan+

Player Valuation: £40m
My personal hero was Kanchelskis, who was apparently signed for £5m, i could have sworn it was £7m. Anyway, i asked ChatGPT to use the inflation today for his value which was only £11m.

Who's yours?

Here is the prompt if you wanna use ChatpGPT or whatever " <insert player name and value here> adjust that and give me the formula for inflation today < this is the prompt"

I thought Kanchelskis was £4m, internet says £5m, the thing is, some of that disparity in the figures could be explained by the shoebox full of cash that was left in the vault at old trafford allegedly destined for their manager at the time. It's also worth noting Joe and Alex were and are pals that'd go out for a drink together now n then. What a difference Andrei would make in our side today. Well I'll be, it was Ranieri that signed him from us for Fiorentina.

Limpar Speed Dacourt Kanchelskis

Shame we couldn't get that midfield four together.

Transfer fees haven't increased in line with inflation so it's not a true reflection of what Kanchelskis' value would be today.
How much would my hero, Alan Ball, be worth now?

As said, normal inflation methods just can not be applied to football transfers.
IF THEY COULD . . .
Alan Ball would be an absolute steal at about £2M
for a player who had only recently been hailed by many as MotM in the World Cup Final.

As others have suggested, the increase in transfer fees is a function of the increased money sloshing about the Premier League much more than it is of inflation.

The formula you need would multiply by some factor of the increase in average prize money, sponsorship deals etc.

Not sure i have a "Hero" any time any era, but when younger my fav was Kanchelskis. Was going mad when it looked like it was not going to happen after about 5weeks of messing about on fee. Then the day we officially did deal was day i was going on holiday - I didnt want to go on holiday after that

Plus always thought the deal was 5.5 as we and man utd were messing about on half a mil or something, not that it matters now

Kevin Campbell.

Single handily saved us from certain relegation.

Single handily changed the club from being a club that black players wouldn’t sign for, with the club and fans being perceived as racist, to a club that all players could play for, no matter what their colour.

You really can’t over estimate how far Super Kev moved the club forward all by himself.

To me, he was one of the single most important signings in the entire history of the club.

He just happened to be one of the nicest guys on the planet too.💙
