Last Film You Watched

Good grief 'Dune' was slow, like a space opera without the music. It all looked very pretty and the wide shots do a lot of lifting (I'm sure stunning at the cinema), but it was snail paced. And the technical close ups of the machinery added nothing but value for budget spent. Annoying.

It’s one of the only films that I went to see with a mate and then went back by myself to “ really “ watch it, with maximum concentration.

To me it’s a cinematic masterpiece.

how many rolling shots of Cairo (rooftops at the edge of the desert) and then sand dunes can you require? Did it not seem very star wars to you?

Not all, I thought the cinematography was one of things that made it a perfect sci-fi film.

I could’ve watched six hours of it and not been bored for a second.

The worm riding scene, actually made the hairs on the back of neck stand up.

But, it’s all subjective 👍

I think that might be Dune 2.

Yeah, you`re right.

I didn`t think Dune 2 was as good though, kind of a stripped down version of the first one.

Still very good, just slightly below the first one.
turns out it's 12 minutes longer than the first one. maybe I just wasn't over the moon with batista typecast again and rebecca ferguson hamming it up as some sort of subjugated oracle. it felt derivative.

I absolutely loved it, but can see how it might not be for some people. I like a movie that takes its time. Films like the Dune movies and Top Gun Maverick make it worth still going to the cinema from time to time

Star Wars borrowed very heavily from the original Dune book. Dune is no more a Star Wars ripoff than King of Comedy ripped off Todd Phillips' Joker film

I saw 'prince of persia' and a bit of james bond in dune last night, TGM kept the story ticking over with a half arsed love interest tacked on and the jeopardy of him getting canned once Kilmer was buried. Also the jeopardy of knowing how he'd lead the mission he'd been ruled out of.

dune had secret assassins we'd not been prep'd for, Skarsgard rolling out of the primordial ooze for very little reason, prophecy/dreams, a visit to the oracle, giant octopus worm terminators (Sarlacc?), X-wings, these guys...

So it turns out Neo/Skywalker (Chalamet) is the saviour. Who knew, and can even take down the top brass evil knievel in the desert rocks.

And the worst of it? Hipsters talking it up like it's some original vision delivered by genius. Could stitch the majority of it together using other films scenes and keep the same narrative. The same slow plodding narrative. Ah yeah, the ancient light sabre/Rancor fang.

How many do they have to make to wrap it up?
