The New(ly) Dead Thread

The lad who was banged up in Dubai after a ‘holiday romance’ where his (17 year old) partner’s parents blew him up to the police, died in a police pursuit in Tottenham over the weekend.

….yep, I read that a day or so ago. He was passenger in a car and the driver has been charged with no licence, insurance etc. probably why the police were chasing them in the first place.

They are not mind readers, regardless of how confident they act.

….on board computer alerts them if a car isn’t insured or taxed, it’s been a very good development from that perspective.
ANPR does the taxing of a vehicle. Tax wasn't mentioned previous. Re insurance, it is the driver that holds the insurance not the vehicle. The only way to check is to ask the driver to present their particulars at a station.

If the Police had reasonable suspicion that a vehicle was worth stopping to check credentials, then they can stop it. If the driver had no problem i.e. DID have proper road tax, insurance, and a full licence, then the driver would simply stop and allow the checks to be completed, and then go on his way. Police suspicions (whatever they were) were ultimately confirmed, and the driver elected not to stop, but to try to get away. Result = 1 death, 100% on the driver.

What don't you understand about the above...?

Stop making excuses, I’ve never been stopped once by the police in all my years of driving.
They obviously had a reason to want to stop them.
