2025/26 Thierno Barry

Oh your back, you conveniently disappeared after the last two stellar team performances. Your boy MoM?
Tend to avoid the forums etc after poor results usually because its just a grim atmosphere.

Barry did have his worst showing for us though against Wolves, was disappointed. Happens though with a young player in a new team and league eh. That's why you gotta play em and give them the minutes!

You keep overlooking his lack of application, even if the service to him is poor and not suited to his (strengths?) He's 6'5" so at the very least should he physically imposing himself on opposition defenders. He doesn't appear interested enough to do that.

….at the moment choosing Beto or Barry is more a case of identifying the least worst. It’ll be in our best interest if the penny drops with Barry but there’s no real sign of that, I’d be going with Beto hoping he recaptures last seasons form where he scored goals and troubled CBs at this level.

Worth noting that Palace are very strong in central defence, at least Beto might give them a bit to think about.

Well apparently Delap nearly did..

Even a few of the older strikers that were on freebies could have worked or even Mitrovic!

Id have taken vardy too for a year.. There were plenty of temporary stop gap strikers that had the experience!
Wasn't considered value to a side demoted to the championship, and he's got a lot of credit in the bank at that pace. Didn't exactly run the top league scorers close last season, and has decided for a luxurious final fling (unless the mls comes calling) in Italy. Good for him.

What we need is a brute, some physicality because Beto doesn't want to know and Barry is getting used to how hard defenders and midfielders are allowed to hit.

Chopping and changing Beto and Barry isn't helping anyone. He needs to tell Barry he's in for a decent run of games to try and get him settled in the team. We might even start creating some chances for him, to be judged upon. The lad needs to build some confidence

….Grealish is leading the ‘chances created’ for the entire league and KDH isn’t too far behind him.

Problem is though, what if you do this, and he’s awful? Do you keep him in for the run of games? Because fans will then be demanding for a change.

Yeah, think we just have to persist with Beto and hope he hits form again.

I guess the coaches can see in training when Barry might be ready for starts / appearances.

There's nothing to be gained by putting him in the spotlight and wrecking his confidence. Moyes needs to take the pressure off of him, that's his job.

Over the decades Everton supporters have taken duff players to their hearts purely based on the amount of effort they put in. Maybe Moyes needs to sit down with him and trawl through some YouTube videos of players like Straw,Niasse,Joe Harper,Phil Neville to name a few. No excuse for a lack of effort and application.

I don't see this lack of effort and application. Looks a bit lost in the setup to me.i don't know what his instructions are. Maybe the instructions of some of the other players you name, and the tactics at the time were specifically run around a lot and get stuck in. It certainly doesn't hurt in getting the fans behind you, but we don't know what the player is being asked to do. Id agree we can assume he isn't doing it very well so far, but not what the role is.

So I don't agree with the last sentence, I think it's at least partly subjective based on your reading of the game and again way too early to be assuming you are right and dismissing a new young player settling in.

I hope he does well with whatever time he gets tomorrow.

I think it's highly likely he's being asked to play a touch deeper so he can be involved in build up. Beto is purely hassling defenders because that's all he can do really.

It's slightly strange because in La Liga he played right on the defensive line and being aggressive and a hassle for CBs was a huge part of his game, which is what makes me think its specific instructions now - you can see he immediately takes up a very different position to Beto when he comes on.

He doesn't pressure opposition defenders enough using his pace and strength. If you don't see that...
