2025/26 David Moyes

I did not want Moyes since about half through his first stint, I certainly did not want him back this time. His transfer intake this season is so poor, more than 50m spent purely on potential in Barry and Dibbling is a disgrace, neither are yet good enough for the premiere league and who knows if they ever will be, if all that is down to Moyes (which I believe it is} then its my reason for not wanting him. Before I get any stick it is only my opinion which I believe after watching them for more than 70 years I believe I am entitled to.

There is absolutely no chance Moyes was insisting we sign Barry - I don’t think he fancies him at all.

Recruitment was a mess, but that is on the Freidkins I’m afraid.

Coalam, I assume your reply was in response to my earlier letter, you say you did not want Moyes return either but you go on to defend him later in your well written article, if I am correct you seem to compare him with what we had before he came back but if so you cannot do that because Moyes has got more money than Dyche ever had. This present team is mainly Moyes team, I believe he has bought badly paying big money for average potentiality, not buying a RB which everybody knows we need, no goal scorers and we are unable to beat the likes of Wolves (poor team selection) and West Ham at home. These are the main reasons I did not want him back.

I think it's more of an alignment thing (sorry to sound all Dyche there) where Moyes and the recruitment team aren't on the same page so some players will be Moyes recommendations and others are club signings (Aznou and Barry and possibly Dibling)

I think that’s a bit of a stereotype. He did well with guys like Rodwell, Pickford and Rice. Turned Bowen into a top player too. Hell, Arteta was 22 when Moyes signed him. Coleman was 20.

He does expect players to earn a spot in the team though.

Dont think he was anything to do with pickford. Koeman signed him(one of the few things he did ok)
Bowen is his gem post his first Everton stint.
Barry could be a concern as he signed some stinkers up front for west ham.

Im Glad TFG, kinnear etc we’re all involved. But kinnear did say on the Toffee tv interview Moyes is hard to buy for, im glad we’ve invested in youth. Instead of Moyes buying a ward prowse for 30mil. He wasted a fortune at West Ham and they’re still felling the pinch.

We need 8/9 players and couldn’t just go and buy like 3 players IE 50mil striker and a 50mil winger. And then 5/6 loans imo
Also we got turned down by players, which is another factor

Think he’s talking about Sunderland, let’s not forget he never played Barkley and the greatest young talent ever to come through, Moyes also kept him On the bench a lot.
@JobForTheMoyes
Also at times his hands were forced at Everton, because of financial issues at the club last time he was here , so he had youngsters around the squad. But which homegrown talent did he really improve at Everton last time??? Maybe rodwell, not many more

West Ham spent (and wasted) a fortune the summer after Moyes left, if they are ‘feeling the pinch’ it’s because of that.

You mean purely Everton youth, or British? He developed lots of players over the years - Jagielka, Rooney, Lescott, etc.

Sure, he is reluctant to just play youth for the sake of it, but he also tries to help their development by sending them on loan, letting youth players train with the first team and stuff like that.

Like anything else, it’s not a binary thing.
