2025/26 Jake O'Brien

He has played every minute of every game and needed to be replaced.

At least 3 options in Coleman, Patterson and at a stretch Garner, could have swapped out for him.

He was poor and has been for a while

6’6 CB playing RB that has done a great job largely, but he’s still definitely not a RB - there’s gonna be games like yesterday where that is massively obvious.

Issue was lack of support to a degree but no excuse for his own individual errors and consistently losing out physically/in the air to midgets.

We can't play Garner at both RB and RW. Something has to give, and he seems integral as supporting CM. Considering a lot of forum accounts were coughing up that he was a bench player at best prior to the season start, he (Garner) suddenly seems essential in 3 starting positions.

Everton: Boggles the mind.

Wouldn’t be against garner at rb , hall being moved into cm , jack as 10 , Illman on the left and dibbling on the right

Reminds me of lescott at full back, did a decent job.....needed a specialist

Rinse and repeat for moyes

This time we dont have a baines waiting to come in. Should have signed a rb.

When players aren't playing well, they need to be replaced. He had a tough night and needed to come out.

Adding two more keepers to the matchday squad seems more useful than having Coleman and Patterson in it.

Exactly this...... and hopefully if we ever see the wizard back fit, he could also fit into that cm position.

Garner is much more suited RB than it seems anyone else in the squad (actual RB's included).

Up against 2 rapid speed merchants last night & really struggled.

Usually has Ndiaye helping out but he tired quickly in the 2nd half and fresh legs should have been brought on.

He's been great for us but we do need a true RB in there.

Then again , yet another goal conceded from our LB position.
That's 5 in the last 3 games.

If we were stretching for the win, Garner in at full back and Alcaraz in midfield would of been a positive change

This is the problem being a versatile player who will sacrifice his own positional role for the benefit of the team. After a while being played out-of-position, you get crucified. He should have been lauded for his efforts last season and then allowed to contend for the centre-half positions this. But he was taken for granted and taken advantage of. Now he's a patsy.

Moyes needs to take the flak here. He'll need to show loyalty to O'Brien in some form - but he's painted him into a corner.

When a manager is turning one of his unexpected success stories into an example of failure, things are going South...

Felt sorry for him last night, going to get games where he is up against genuine pace, with his build too it is tough, think he has done a great job in the main, just remember everyone it is not on O’Brien last night, more on the clubs pathetic attempts to improve a position which we have required for three to four years now.
