2025/26 Thierno Barry

I think everyone is being incredibly harsh on BOTH strikers. It’s relentless, even well known social media accounts that should know better. The strikers are feeding off scraps, are incredibly isolated, and they’re getting zero service. People moaning at Beto because the ball is not sticking when pumped up to him, have people not realised by now that ISN’T his game and never has been? We’ve know this right from the beginning!! If you want that type of striker, then they should have paid DCL what he wanted.

We’ve also signed a new striker who we’ve been told by respected journalists from Spain, “doesn’t suit a lone striker role”. And people are surprised both are struggling?

The success Beto had last season, were when he had Alcaraz sliding through balls through the middle for him to run on to. THAT is Beto’s strength. Same when Garner slid that ball through against Leicester. So why is our genius manager asking him to lead the line like an old fashioned grok and whack balls up top for him to hold on to and lay off?

Beto and Alcaraz struck up a good partnership last season, they seemed to have a very good understanding. Alcaraz can play those through balls that Beto thrives on, nobody else in our squad seemingly can.

If the strategy from the manager is to play a lone front man to lead the line and pump the ball up to him hoping it’s going to stick, then we’ll continue to struggle no matter which of the two he plays!

KDH is suspended. How about ditch these fancy formations for Palace and go back to the future and play 4-4-2. Flat back four, four across the middle (Gana Garner Grealish Ndiaye) and play BOTH strikers up top? Palace certainly won’t be expecting it and the surprise element could work in our favour.

If we continue to play the same way, then get Alcaraz back in the line up to replace KDH and let him and Beto renew their partnership that we saw to good effect last year.

I don't think the tactic is to pump the ball up to the striker. It's more to pump the ball up to Ndiaye and Grealish and get the ball to them to do something hence why Beto doesn't work that well because we are operating in a way which isn't going to see those types of through balls happening as often as they prefer to attack in a different form. That's also why we should be playing Barry over Beto because he's better at linking up play and playing football. Beto is the type of player that you want to see as little of the ball as possible which is becoming more and more redundant in the game.

Perhaps we could try KDH/Alcaraz/Garner as a three to see if that works but if Gana is playing then Alcaraz won't as Grealish/Ndiaye/KDH are all better players than him.

To get the best from Barry, we need to partner him upfront to help him and also have a different option not just like for like because it doesn't change.

I agreed with everything till the last paragraph! You made a great argument for why dropping Alcaraz has damaged Beto, so the solution there is obvious. I like KDH a lot, but whereas Alcaraz constantly looked to play the ball behind the centre halves for Beto to run onto, KDH constantly looks to play it out wide to Grealish.

We already get carved open far too easily. This side would be getting smashed 5-0 every week.
That team switches into a 4-5-1 in defence just like yesterday but having an attacking player with Barry aids him.

We need to see Dibling with Grealish and Ndiaye, their strengths are passing and we have options to feed through Barry

You know your strikers are bad when outclassed by someone like fullkrug
I like Fullkrug, think he’s came to the prem too late in his career but he’s a bit of a throwback.

Better than our two by a long way. Goal scoring record that our lads could only dream of currently - better than one in 2 for Germanys national team.
