New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

The whole layout of this stadium looks designed to not build a fortress-like atmosphere. We dont really have a home end as far as I'm concerned.

It all looks too fragmented and sterile.

And I dont know what's happening with the acoustics for Everton supporters. Even a 2/3rds full away section tonight sounded 10x louder.

Something is just a bit off about the place and it's not just down to 'teething problems'.

Something structural.
Structure of the South Stand looks ok to me. But where I was, there were too many people either sitting in silence or just moaning tonight.

Can anyone that went confirm that the atmosphere was shocking. That is how it came across on the TV anyway.

When we had the whole place singing it was loud, louder than Goodison has been in recent times. Just doesn't happen that often.

The massive bank of posh seats act as a fire break you hear pockets of singing but it doesn't catch.

It's no good boasting about steep stands when those stands have too much space and salad between them and the pitch. I already miss the closeness of our fans at Goodison and the players on the pitch - terrified the life of our opponents when we were on song. While not as bad as new(ish) grounds like the Emirates and West Hams ground you simply cannot beat the intimacy of old grounds like Goodison.

The club should have ignored the guidelines advised for modern stadium builds - I care more about the week to week regular home games rather than whether the 'Hill Dickinson' will be capable of holding a Europa League final at some point or hosting a couple of internationals.

You say that but other teams do still generate decent atmospheres. I do think over the last 10 years we've had a lot of new fans start going the game though, as you can see from the constant sell outs, and they've never really known anything else but to spend the majority of the match sitting in silence.
Better then us? Maybe. They generally had more to be positive about then us too. I guarantee you that they probably think that their atmosphere is garbage compared to what they used to have though.
