Signing players who will peak in the future is absolutely the right thing to be doing, but for a club like us they need to be good enough in the short term to at least play some part. There's an argument that we needed to upgrade at left back, we definitely needed at least viable cover. I find it difficult to believe that we knowingly spent £8/9m on a player that we knew didn't give us that.

Is he even that great a motivator? He's obviously a great lad but I've never been convinced he's the best motivator as he comes across as far too nice and I'd prefer a b****** doing the rabble rousing

The speed we are writing these youngsters off is getting shorter and shorter every season. How about giving them a chance before declaring them league 1 standard. It is getting ridiculous. They've barely played enough to have formed such definitive opinions.

Totally agree. I'd of preferred Ashley Young if we had to keep 1 of them as at least he's available for most games

I think it's code for saying he's good going forward but defensively not reliable enough and Moyes would rather play a defensive full back even though we have one of them playing right back

In fairness, he was playing in La Liga for one of the worst teams in the leagues history who finished rock bottom. He's only 19, it would be like if, for example we signed a teenager from Southampton and expected them to be ready... ANG ON!
