A no win situation

Because it’s arguably the most important cup competition on football. The prize money is bigger, it is massive historically, etc.

The League Cup started out as some kind of football pools competition or something.
So if we get the conference do we not bother with that ?

That big money prize for winning the FA cup could be a real game changer and cover 5 weeks of jacks wages.

I'd be happy that he prioritised the cup. We all want success but it's far less likely to come when Moyes picks teams like he did last night. We could win the next 3 league games from now and I wouldn't even be bothered. I want big cup nights at BMD, I want days out at Wembley.
A cup gives you a trophy and europe.
League position can only give you one of those..

Europa Conference actually has a massive prize pool and comes with European qualification on top.

Win all your games and you make more than 17 million Euros in prize money alone.

We’re not going to consistently get to the later stages of cups unless we can improve the squad further and that won’t happen unless we do well in the League. Without good League performance, we’re not going to have a good chance in the cups.

We could have a lucky run in a cup once in a while but we need to have a squad that is consistently getting to quarter finals if we want to start having real chances of winning something.

Could've had several more home cup ties pulling in a nice bit of income, and who knows what kickers we have in play for sponsorship if we play x amount more games at HD.

We care about lifting a cup, the prize money is way down the list.

Ok so we want to get in Europe for the money or the glory ?

How many West Ham fans do you reckon know how much the price money was .

I’m not looking for a row mate I’m just annoyed . I’ve been lucky enough to see us win trophies and I’ve no idea whether the ECWC was more than the FA cups or the league but I don’t know I enjoyed myself .

I was just hoping we might at least start to compete .

It’s for both. You get glory, a fat wedge and become more attractive to players.

At the end of the day, it’s all about building and raising the levels. Do that and the success follows.

We want sustainable success that can lead to a culture of excellence, not just a one-off cup win.

So we prioritise the FA cup but not the league cup ? Why the difference , what happens in the 3rd if we get the RS or arsenal away.

I’m in no way suggesting we were going to win that cup , but we’ve had a relatively feel good start and a decent winnable albeit away tie but we decide to make 7 changes like we’ve got a champions league game in Madrid to worry about .
We need to get to a stage where we have a squad that could compete with those teams in cup competitions. Newcastle beat Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal (over two legs) to win the Carabao Cup last season, we’re not at the stage where I could see us doing that.

The league campaign and the FA Cup are the key ones. It’s not so much about being fussy as having this tournament as the least important one.

Of course, if you get a lucky draw and make it to the late stages you change the priority, but at this stage it’s not worth getting too fussed one way or the other.

I'm amazed you wouldn't want to be in it.

Look at Newcastle last season, tell me you wouldn't want that?

Were not winning the league, but we're not going down.
We should have been prioritising tue cups for me.

They're not mutual exclusive you know - success breeds success, and we know what failure does, we've been living it for 30 years.

I think moyes could of rotated a couple players without making a major overhaul in the starting lineup. I don't think it was a binary scenario of either you retained the regular starters or you make significant alterations some tweaks would of been feasible such dewsberry hall playing further back for gana but still including Alcarez and Dibbling for Ndiaye while keeping Jack
