2025/26 David Moyes

Things have changed concerning Moyes this time around.

Fans were prepared to let caution be emphasised; that wont be tolerated anymore.

The reaction to Moyes will be a lot sharper this time around because of our changed circumstances: a chance presented to re-announce ourselves as a football club. Lowering expectations isn't part of this new era.

The new owners have shown at Roma what their MO is.

It’s not a question of posters being pro or anti Moyes, or their stance on previous managers, it’s all irrelevant now.

The only reality is that unless Moyes breaks out of the limits that he couldn’t the first time round at the club, then he’ll most likely not get another contract.

60ish points, losing to the top 6 away from home, no cup run, and no derby wins might be accepted this season due to the increase in league position but quite frankly if that was repeated the season after then he’ll be out the door.

We have some very very good attacking players at Everton now. Moyes needs to unlock them and start changing perceptions of Everton otherwise the Freidkins will find someone else who will.

The mixed nature of the start absolutely infuriates me. How can the CEO come out in an interview and basically admit we weren’t ready for the Leeds game? I don’t care that we won the two afterwards, that’s just absolutely inexcusable. Then the highs of three wins in a row and just when you think a corner is being turned and we can really make a statement this year, timid fc raises its unwanted head again and 1 point from Villa and Liverpool with that first 30 mins against Liverpool undid all the good work from before.

I can accept teams playing badly, god knows we’ve seen plenty of that from Everton, I can accept lack of quality as we saw against Villa. What I cannot accept is the first 45 mins v Leeds and Liverpool. Players just seemingly ‘not ready’ for no given reason other than it was the first game of the season and it was Anfield so there was an excuse not to be.

Moyes needs to knock that on the head and quickly. If it’s the players doing then fix it, if it’s his fault then bleeding knock it off. It’s boring and tiring.

If you're going to lose your head about having mixed form then I would strongly suggest checking out for the next few years because there is almost certain to be a huge amount of it, quite possibly a bit more mixed than being able to beat Wolves but not Liverpool too I reckon.

These same people fell over themselves to support the 2 fat kopites we had as managers.

They are not serious people and they really should not be taken seriously.
The ironic aspect is when Moyes opted to actually engage with Liverpool in the second half we did quite well it was when we sat back like dyche and tried to launch balls up the pitch, Everton looked woeful

If only we had something that showed results against teams, we could maybe call it a League Table and it would monitor how each team performs through the season.

Something to consider really.
The best team on paper does not always win individual games - that is the joy of football. Over thirty eight games the table doesn't lie.

Most people can accept what we’ll undoubtedly see over a lot of games this season: passes misplaced, sloppy touches, chances snatched at etc. the hall marks of a team ‘playing badly’ ‘one of those days’ etc. What I don’t like is this zombie type paralysis that grips Everton whenever we’re away at a top ground, or have a great opportunity presented, or at the beginning of most seasons. Players just shuffling around not doing, well, anything.

Mixed form is what you see from other mid table teams, e.g they’ll win at Old Trafford one week then lose at home to Brentford the next etc. We don’t have mixed form, we have predictable form and it’s occurred under most managers at this club. We don’t win at top teams, we don’t win derbies, we don’t often win many away, we beat some bottom half teams at home and the odd big win at home, we don’t win trophies.

It’s not radical for me to point out that if there is to be a new era at Everton that these things need to change over the next few seasons.

The only change from the 1st half to the 2nd half was Barry for Beto, people keep acting like he took off a defender and went attacking, I very much doubt Moyes told the players to play scared in the 1st half, but hey ho.

Our home form will be our bread and butter but we do need to improve away at all levels and Moyes has made a start with it.
I'd be looking at Utd, Chelsea, and Spurs as places where we (and most particularly Moyes) need to do better this season. He needs to win at least one of those games.

If that happens and we get a decent cup run, that's all we can ask for really. The best of the rest is no longer finishing 5th, its possibly 8th now. I think that's achievable for us at a push.

We don't really know what TFG will regard as successful in the medium term but its getting more difficult to stand still with each passing season, we are starting from a very low point so there is a lot of room for improvement and we've seen a good improvement already imo.

The cups are key really - its a potential passport to Europe and European games, with the amount of them now, would represent solid progress even if that is the Conference League, I'd be very glad to take it.

Our circumstances have changed because we now have a decent manager.

Functional board too, with owners who have clearly backed the manager pretty well compared to recent previous seasons.

Fans were prepared to let caution be emphasised; that wont be tolerated anymore.

Goes for any manager when money has been spent. If the EPL ever has fair officiating again we were good for the draw, even with make shift defense again on Saturday.
