2025/26 David Moyes

Liverpool going into an early KO derby with it bucketing down after playing a dramatic CL game a few ays earlier. I bet Slot had his excuses lined up before KO. By HT he must have been laughing his bollocks off at Moyes allowing them an attack v defence session to use them to a win. Any other PL manager would have looked at that opportunity and taken it or at least made an attempt to take it. Not Moyes though.

Moyes might have made us secure in all the time he's been here, but FFS he has been one of the biggest gifts to Liverpool as an Everton manager there's ever been. He prostrates himself before them and he sends Everton teams out with zero stomach for taking a fight to them. No wonder they find him such a laughing stock.

I've certainly got no agenda against Moyes. I was pleased when we appointed him for the short/medium term, delighted with how we did last year and there are clear positives from the start of this season.

It doesn't mean he shouldn't be questioned yesterday. Why were we appalling for the first half an hour and only then start playing alright? I'm not expecting us to suddenly be challenging top 6/7 but if we are to progress, we shouldn't be patting ourselves on the back saying "didn't we do well?" after we've already given the game away. That's not an acceptable mentality if we want to be a serious club again.

They were there to be got at, as they have been every game this season, and we missed the boat.

Big couple of games coming up. Get through to next round and then beat West Ham and its been a really good start to the season. Get knocked out and fail to beat Hammers though and the mood changes a bit.
No harm in questioning him, his tactics or anything else.

But some of the stuff I’ve read is OTT.

If he intentionally sent the players out to be a bit cagey then it’s probably because of who we were playing. Of course it backfired and maybe the approach should have been to get at them and put them on the back foot early.

If we had managed to keep them out first half then we probably win that game. It’s all fine margins, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Look at the above post 👆my point is being made for me rather spectacularly 😂

Yawn, just have a day off ffs.

Need 6 points from next two to keep momentum going. Otherwise it’s turning into an average to poor start. If we go out the cup, lost the derby, and have passed up a few gifts at home to put us in the bottom half then he’ll start to invite pressure that doesn’t need to be there.

Start games properly, make subs earlier, and the players need to play with more conviction, there’s just no reason to be mishitting shots all the time and being tentative.
Interesting in the after match interview that Grealish gave he said that at half time the players and manager talking about the lack of pressing and energy and how it improved. Maybe that talk might have been better 45+ minutes earlier?

moyes does what you see on the can keep you up good for a finish in top 10 but if everton want to get back into the top 6 in england moyes aint your man to do it. his press confrence was defeat .

He finished 6th, 7th and 9th at West Ham, two of those seasons they were in Europe as well.

Away games at big teams have never been his forte.

I think Moyes has done a great job in both his spells as manager but let's be honest , he's still safety first and always will be.

Unless we look to play defenders , particularly full backs , who are comfortable in possession we are never going to break into the top 6-8.

We have some very good footballers now ( the first time in ages ) and yes there is a huge improvement in the football played since last season but I still think this group of players are capable of even more.

I'm certainly not advocating to change the coach , that would be madness but I'd be interested to know who was available at the end of the season.

How is it a point dropped yesterday away at the champions and a team with 240m (in two players) on the bench?!

And Villa 2 points dropped? A side that I don’t think we’ve beaten in 13 games?

Look how far we’ve progressed if that’s your mentality.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, look at expectations already for this season. Anything above 12th is progress this year.
So means another decade of waiting? How about having 3 points at City, Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea ground to start with?

Since he left over 10 years ago, we have won 4 times at a top 6 ground. Of those 4 occasions, 3 were behind closed doors with no fans at the stadium.

Not getting a win at a top six club is the expected result for Everton, regardless of the manager.

Moyes has helped cement that though. You're not going to win many at the big grounds, but Palace for example have won away at all the big 6 in the last 10 years, many of them multiple times, including Anfield.

We won't get a proven striker, unless they're either 34 or we pay £80 million.
34 would do me as long as he can do just the basics. Our back four are close to the worst in the division playing out so we have to go long more often than not and with the two strikers we have at present that's never going to get many results.

Apparently Moyes wanted the away dressing room to be conspicuously small, dark and unwelcoming at the new stadium. He'll probably offer Liverpool our dressing room for the return derby and we'll take that one.

This feller needs to get up off his knees for once and realise we should be flying at that lot and not standing off them like a load of 💩houses.

Remember your hero Roberto doing that and we got absolutely mullered

I am disappointed that we didn't go for it early, but I think we lack a full proof identity at the moment. We can play up to their level but I'm not so sure we can create the chances we need to create to take these consistently.

They took their foot off the gas in the second half but even then we should have at least given them a game in the first and shouldn't have approached it so scared. We were clearly rattled so the mentality isn't quite where it needs to be.

I think we need to get a better look at a Dibling/Ndiaye/Grealish front 3. We need another look to KDH in the no. 10. I also think Myko coming back into the team disrupted the rhythm that we had built. We have clearly improved. We just need to clearly improve our confidence as well.
