Tete pied us off in June. Who was supposed to be next on the right back list? Because we haven’t been linked with one since.

We got linked with Ainsley Maitland-Niles a few days ago. Only speculation at this stage though I think.

I feel a bit for Moyes and the whole recruitment team. It’s clear they’ve not been “dithering” or sitting around doing little, they want top quality players and are waiting for those players to give us an answer. What else can you do? Seems as though they’ve waited for as long as they feel they can. I’d much rather they’ve done what they’ve tried and bring in ambitious top signings even if it ultimately fails, than do easy deals early for players of a lesser quality.

We should have gone for the squad options we will need first, to get our numbers up and to allow us to have a proper pre season with a normal sized playing squad. Then you can focus on your more difficult and expensive transfers later. Instead we seem to just be going from player to player, making offers with no prospect of a deal being completed.

And now we are 16 days from when squads must be registered for week 1, and we don't have enough senior players fit and available to even fill a matchday squad. If we have another poor start, which looks more and more likely, then it's entirely down to the recruitment strategy which is failing yet again.

What's clear is this isn't just a problem we are facing - a lot of clubs are facing similar issues this summer. I think it will all come good eventually - but it's still frustrating.

There’s been a few that are head scratchers. I can understand the complications with Luiz and Fofana for sure, but how we haven’t paid the price for Hackney and AMN yet I don’t know. Would leave us with the rest of the window to focus efforts on the right wing position.

For the people in the concerned/worried camp - you absolutely cannot tell me that you would've been happy with this scenario either, as much as you have claimed otherwise.

You know what? There are other possible players in the world than just those. But personally I would have been ok with Longstaff. Wilson, too, except he makes DCL look like the pinnacle of health. Brownhill would have been more so-so but he's on a free so I could live with it. Soucek on free would be ok too, but we shouldn't be paying fees for players of that age.

Everyone should have understood that we are not going to sign nine 30 million players this summer. And there's no point paying that for someone who isn't a starter. Signing depth players would have at least been a backup plan if things go tits up in August and we fail to sign a good player to some positions. Much better than having no-one there or panic buying on TDD.

As a bonus those players would have been integrated into the team by now.

It’s been apparent for weeks that the window wasn’t going to plan, even though people have been falling over themselves to say how confident they were that everything was fine. Seems Moyes disagrees.

I think players are rejecting us because we are aiming for very good players who want to join bigger clubs that are playing in Europe if we were targeting average players I dare say we’d have plenty in now.

I’d rather aim high and get quality in later than aim low and get average in sooner - Frustrating as it is.

Our lack of recruitment/scouting infrastructure is showing.

We need to be targeting players like Fofana before they ‘make it’.

Fofana cost Lyon €17m from Gent in 2024. Now he’s double that and wants champions league football.

This was Glasner yesterday. Very similar to Moyes. Think a massive part of the issue is managers wanting players (perfectly reasonably) a few weeks before the season but that simply isn’t the deadline. Only the actual deadline forces action not one in the minds of one of the three negotiating parties. Hence why we, they, most of the league are stalling.

This is pretty normal stuff across the board and the only solution is to bring forward the transfer deadline but they tried that and reverted back.

The decision to revert back to 1st September deadline was absolutely ridiculous. Benefits no one other than a select few big clubs.
