Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Oh God.

The "winner" narrative has started. The following is an inexhaustive list of apparent winners from our recent past:

Gibson
Cleverley
Rooney
Delph
Young
Lampard

Signing players who have won things with far, far, far better clubs when they were younger is absolutely zero guarantee of them being any use for us whatsoever.
Unlike Walker,
Gibson, Cleverly, Delph and even Young were not key players in the success of their clubs, on that list only Rooney was and I thought he did well on his return.

Lampard didn’t play for us.

Indeed, but he was still supposed to bring that fabled winning mentality with him and... surprise, surprise?!

Players age and worsen, irrespective of how important they were for their clubs and what they won in the process. Walker got punted once he was of no more use to City, and failed pretty spectacularly in a much slower league at one of the bigger clubs.

This absolutely stinks of a player in a marked and irreversible decline, but something something winning mentality so let's sign him!

Im lost with this.

Its one thing to turn your nose up at Walker.

But to be open to Walker-Peters?

No.
I guess what many expected was us to actually purchase a long term, first team, competent right back for the first time in years.

Then someone like KWP could be a great option to provide cover for both FB positions at no further transfer outlay…

ANOTHER stopgap at right back, good grief, I’d cry.
