Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

This window is a stop gap.

We have to bulk up the squad in all areas so we have to be patient and sign players who can fill multiple spots.

Alcaraz is a great signing because he can play multiple positions.

I think we need 8/9 players which includes 2 keepers. We can use the loan market to put advantage because despite other clubs signing players for top money, it's still a buyers market with plenty of clubs wanting and more importantly needing to sell.

Also have faith in our youth team because we have players who might take their chance during pre-season so keep an eye out for:
Armstrong
Dixon
Sheif
Benjamin

I know all that.

Like I say, scored a hat trick and got overhyped.

Those 12 goals in those 2 seasons came in 9 games.

What did he do in the other 37 games he played in those seasons to warrant the fees they want for him?

Bear in mind he has been playing for a team that creates lots of chances and scores lots of goals, he couldn’t get ahead of a 34 year old welbeck.

He then made 21 appearances this season and couldn’t get into a West Ham side that has no real 1st choice striker and he wasn’t getting off the bench when they made 5 subs at 2 nil down.
Not saying we should pay anywhere near what they were looking for him, I agree and dont think he was ever worth that kind of money.
Just saying he should not be written off either. Still very young, poor form this season could be down to lack of preseason and confidence due to being out with injury.
If Chermiti had got us 6 goals this season I'd be hopeful on his future. Ferguson is younger than him.
If we did go for him it would have to be a loan with an option or low upfront payment with add ons. Think Brighton will want a transfer fee on him as if he has another bad loan his value will take a massive hit, although I suppose the contrary is also true if he has a good one.
He was poor for Ireland the other night but so were all of them and he had to come very deep to get possession from the mighty Luxemburg. Was better against Senegal.
I think he may end up at Celtic or one of the promoted clubs where if he gets a preseason and regular gametime I think he will do well and it wouldnt be that much of a stretch to see him being next seasons Delap who is nearly 2 years older.
Lots of ifs I know... 🤔

As for Ferguson I think key here is how did he actually play when he was quoted at 50 million? Did he just score some lucky bounces? If he really looked like a potential 50 million player then where did those qualities suddenly disappear?

People tend to forget that players are humans too, and have their ups and downs. It all depends on why Ferguson is down at the moment. Is is something permanent or could his career be restored?

It’s very difficult to compete at the top end of the market, I think we have spent over €40 million on a player once. Compare that to:

Liverpool 18
Man City 29
Arsenal 14
Chelsea 27
Man Utd 26
Spurs 10
Newcastle 6

We are light years behind with big signings and player salaries.
Jeez that really puts it in perspective, especially when you consider who that was 🫣
Please dont do what I did and look up our most expensive signings, most of the top 20 are pretty depressing...........

I agree, some cream their cecks over Beto but Lukaku got dogs abuse... it doesn`t make sense.
One started with very high expectations and sometimes didn't deliver but always felt destined for better things. The other started with low expectation and was written off, and has 'come good' and will likely not go much beyond our level.

It's about perspective.
