I was going to Gwladys St then and the groundsmen let a few of us help take the straw off the pitch.
That was a really bad winter - I watched a documentary on it - Believe it or not if we had not had coal/coke fired steam trains as we had back then this country would have been in big trouble as all the diesel fuelled trains the fuel froze solid - it was that cold & the snow never seemed to stop - I fel it would have stopped overhead electric powered trains too......I was going to Gwladys St then and the groundsmen let a few of us help take the straw off the pitch.

It did with us we just made a massive slide of ice - the Tushingham lorry drivers put salt on it - it was that cold we got it going again….but it never stopped us playing footy in the street.
