2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

My view is DCL is simply reflective of modern game, DCL is an athlete not a Rooney, Bergkamp, or Lukaku type. People prefer Beto because what you see is what you get, he tries. He's not perfect but he's a honest and decent person who has a work ethic.

I thought there was a thread to discuss mental health.

This is about Dom the footballer, with his poor scoring record, should we try to re-sign him or not?
Not for me, personally.

Non-footballing issues aside, he’s had a bit of a mare here, in the way things have panned out - he has not played his cards well.

But IIUC it seems we have made a somewhat low-ball offer that he is mulling and comparing, so let’s see.

Wish him all the best and hope he gets his mojo back and enjoys his football obvs, whatever happens.

P.S. if we sell Beto we are mad

It is related to Calvert-Lewin because he talked about it, that is how I saw it. Football and life can mix, just the same as talking about the footballer and the person can mix.

In regards to the football side, no I don't think we should re-sign him. Either way, I have always liked him and hope that he gets through this period in his life, the best way he can, and starts to put in some performances, whoever that may be for.

I like DCL as a person. I think he cares about football. I do think he puts a lot of pressure on himself to perform doesn't just cash a paycheck. I have no issues with him personally.

But we should not re-sign him because

1) He's injury prone with the type of injury that commonly recurs. There's immense risk there
2) He's more a "footballer" and not a "striker". We need strikers that first and foremost score goals. Whether it's mental, putting too much pressure on himself, or any number of reasons, he's proven he's not a good finisher.

From a personal standpoint, I really do hope he goes elsewhere and figures it out. But I just don't think that it should be with us. I think it's a change of scenery will benefit all parties situation

Well im not here to argue mate im just saying what i see. I think its around 10 goals or so from open play in about the last 5 years. Is there another club in the world in a top flight league that tolerates that.
Take out the games he's missed through injury and the games he's trying to control the ball as it's smacked over his head. Not that long ago that he was Kane's understudy for England. I'd rather he stayed here and found his way again than did it somewhere else.
