Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Just throwing a hypothetical in here, if City offered £100m for Branthwaite on the proviso that we could sign Stones, Grealish, McAtee for the same combined total (or slightly less), would that be considered a decent / good deal, and it would it improve us?
This is probably going to sound mad given what Stones has achieved and Grealish’s ability, but I genuinely would only take McAtee from that list. No deal im afraid. When you factor in wages, players we already have in those positions and injury records, it would be a really bad reinvestment of the money when you could get perhaps McAtee, Esteve, Hume and Doak for the same price (give or take).

Purely hypothetical of course :p

Some lad I know has the premium subscription and he says he said that on his podcast that is all.

I wish we would look further a field at times for signings but McAtee every time I have seen him play am like he's a future England regular. His goal against Palace I think it was in the league was something else, the touch and then the composure to then finish.

Has Pep ever mentioned where he sees him playing positionally long term?

he was good to listen too but the only things i remember him saying was james couldnt cut it in the prem and would bomb for us.

Then he said iwobi would be amazing for us. Not the best track record

But he does know his stuff like

I hated Iwobi until somehow Lampard managed to light some sort of fire, was annoyed to see him go but needs must at the time.

Stones no (old+injury prone) Grelish no (plays LF & has done for over 80% of his career & we have ndaiye, plus he’s old & would probably want to go to Villa), McAtee yes… but he’s worth about 1/3rd max of branthwaite (currently)

It's not mad, you should always want players who are on the up, not players that are on the way down.

Still no confirmation of other "transfer committee" appointments. Kinnears interview suggested that these were all but made and that people would be happy with the quality of the appointments. Surely that suggests that they are done but perhaps it's contractual issues / releases holding up any announcements. I'd assume they would be keen to tell us who they are when they can.
The athletic article that came out this morning suggested we are in talks with Man City’s director of scouting. Also stated other people already in place. Think this is the last position to fill?

Agree 100%. Only mentioned those as they're who were linked with currently. I don't think Grealish displaces Ndiaye and wages too much for a bit part player. Although I think he also hasn't been utilised to his optimum potential either.

Remember the lad at school who would always try swapping you his excess Panini stickers for your rare shiny? Well, this is like that.

…no. Stones is a sick note, Grealish is awful and always vastly overrated so it means we’d be swapping Branthwaite for McAtee who struggles for game time in a relatively poor City team but might be worth a punt if the price is right.

Thankfully, Moyes is in charge of transfers now.

Hypothetically....that would get a shocking deal and would lead us back into a financial black hole.

McAtee is ok and you would imagine that his wages are manageable.

Stones is permanently injured and his wages are astronomical.

Grealish has all the talent coached out of him , likes the ale AND is on ridiculous wages.

The only City players I'd be interested in would be Bobb , O'Reilly and McAtee.

I'd like us to build a team.around Branthwaite but if he wants to go then just get the biggest fee possible.
