Everton: Next Trophy?

When will Everton next win any silverware?

So I think that with Oldham winning promotion this season, we have gone through longest league side without winning anything. There last promotion was 1991, and have only been relegated since 1995.
I might be wrong. But think every other side in the league has enjoyed a season that ended with a trophy or or a promotion.

Not huge fun being an evertonian. Pretty sure a relegation would have improved the overall fan experience.
The whole “never relagated” thing is a crap thing to cling to.
Anyway, hopefully that’s a thing of the past.

I went on a Sheffield United forum the other day, and if you think our history is full of ‘Everton That’ moments, then you should see their list of ‘Sheffield United That’ moments.

They include a certain last game of the season in 1994, going down because of West Ham playing ineligible players, and they have been beaten in every single Playoff final they have ever been in, including their latest one, which they somehow managed to lose against Sunderland of all clubs. They won a League One trophy the other year, but have otherwise not won a trophy or even a game at Wembley since 1925.

Regardless, if Crystal Palace can win a trophy last month, then we can win one next season!

I’m still fuming that we didn’t defend the Florida cup. Good times…

I think this season has showed that with the new Champions / Europa / Conference League formats, and with the additional CL spot available, the domestic cups have became a much lower priority for the "top 6". This presents an opportunity to the likes of us, West Ham, Forest, Brighton, Palace of course, to claim the League Cup and FA Cup. Though, it's also possible that Villa and Newcastle will just hoover them up in the absence of the best teams.

I am optimistic though, I 'm going for within 2 years.

I reckon our best chance is getting in that Europa conference league and doing something there. We always bottle it domestically.
We`ve done that a few times in Europe too. When we pulled back a 2 goal deficit v Fiorentina was bad, but worse was Kiev when Lukaku made it 1-1 over there, I thought it was on, but by half time we were 3-1 down on the night and never got back into it.

This reminds me of the old joke when you bought a cardboard golden goal and tore it off to reveal the minute. At Everton you bought one on the first game of the season and it said "February"!

We win the Conference League within 5 years.
Not sure the conference league exists in 5 years. They will cancel it the season we qualify

Yeah but they have been promoted a few times. Including during Chris wilder when they had a stellar season in the championship playing good football.

Be nice to finish a season, look back and go that was a good season, and achieved something.

With all due respect.

It's not an achievement to be in the second tier.

Im talking about enjoying a season. Start g the season with nothing, and then at the end of it achieving a promotion or something.
Yes, you can quantify the relative achievement of finishing midtable in the premier league to be better team then any that win promotion lower down the league, but for for pure emotional fulfillment of going to matches and watching your team win the league lower down would be an excellent fan experience, getting your kids to enjoy something, winning match match after match.
Yo-yo clubs like Norwich probably enjoy going to the game more Everton fans. Season or two in the championship winning game, followed by a season in the premier league where they can watch the top tier talent but have to put up with losing matches at a rate just a bit worse than being an Everton the last four seasons.
The premier league is seen as some holy grail, but the emotion glory and winning anything is what brings excitement to the game.
A bet a lot of us played football at some level and enjoyed it. We never tarnished winning a trophy by saying it’s not the World Cup. Football success can be enjoyed at any level.
don’t get me wrong I have never thought I hope Everton get relegated this season, but if we had have dropped twice in the last thirty years and then come back up, we have had a couple of great seasons in the championship.
Just theoretical idea about fan experience over the last 30 years rather than stat based idea of what is better statistically for arguing who is the best club
