2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

Rather keep him but money talks unfortunately. If he goes to Spurs, that's a bad move for him. He can do better. But if Spurs meet the asking price he goes to Spurs.

Not trying to be a knobhead (for once), but we're a midtable team, he has the potential to be the best defender in Europe, and 99% of clubs around the world are selling clubs. IF he wanted to leave, I wouldn't hold it against the club failing to keep him, it's the nature of modern football. I would dearly love to build a side around him though.
I wouldn't hold it against the club IF it gets its pound of flesh in the right price for us.

But if he goes to Spurs for 40m then we might as well be run by Kenwright.

That won't happen. I'm not concerned about that sort of tabloid rubbish. Chelsea for 80-90mil is definitely on the cards. Defenders don't go for what forwards do, even though they should.

He will go eventually just like every other good player we’ve had in my lifetime has at some point, or you see them stay to start declining and retire. If it’s this window of the one after he’ll leave unless we somehow get CL football and even then City or Madrid could offer him 4 times as much salary and he could still go. It’s just a question of getting as much value as possible for him.

Slightly concerned that we might get a broken down Richie plus a bit of cash for him. Much as I like Richie, his fitness is clearly an issue.

People forget as well that football careers aren’t long. He’s had 5 seasons with us in the first team making his debut under Carlo. He then came to prominence in the relegation run in under Lampard.

Now I actually think whilst it was good for his development the decision to loan him out in the 22/23 season was actually in retrospect absolutely crazy as Keane was basically on a one man mission to relegate us. We should have kept Branthwaite above Coady looking back. Imagine if we’d gone down and had a player of his calibre playing for someone else!

He’s then given us two seasons of playing every week in the first team and we’ve done absolutely nothing but sell all the good players around him,

He might give us another year if we’re lucky but wouldn’t shock me at all that he’s thinking he’s given us 5 years and wants to move on, make a load of money, get in the England team, and play CL football whilst he can.
