2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Good thing we binned off basically the whole team responsible for them eh :(
Thelwell definitely brought in some gems, and some stinkers as well. It's hard to know how things would have panned out if the club weren't so desperate and poorly run. How much of the failures had to do with a lack of overall strategy, disagreement among recruitment and coaching and the exigencies of injury? Would Thelwell have looked like a genius if Danjuma were used the way he should have been, or if DCL hadn't gotten injured and worked out a partnership with the snide little Maupay? But I can only assume that for whatever he got right, either he was ready to move on or the Friedkins decided his department hadn't done enough in building cohesion and a real vision.

There will definitely be clubs looking on with envy seeing a promising young Argentinian attacking midfielder that's already had a year in England going for just £12m, hoping that we don't conclude the deal. Won't get better for that dough.

Maupay was all Frank wasn't it, Thelwell wanted to bring in Guirassay (spelling sorry)

The New York Times says that negotiations are progressing well and they expect to have it completed before the end of the May. It also cites the price at €15m (~ £12.5m).

I think this is accurate, and all the various "reports" on less reputable sites and aggregators (£12–18) comes down to confusing currencies or doing the exchanges the wrong way around.
I agree and think most of the wrongly quoted numbers are ALWAYS abuse of exchange rates. "Journalists" know it too. Id wager 90% of the wrong numbers bantied about, and believed by people on here, are because someone said 20m euros and the next 5 say 20m pounds. Watch this summer, it'll happen dozens of times because a higher number is more sensational and gets more clicks.

That's fantastic. It'll also not be all upfront, probably spread out over two years, so six million pounds per year will barely even touch our PSR.

You may be right. I remember reading something about Thelwell wanted Maupay to complement Calvert-Lewin, but whatever I read could have been wrong.
Always find it funny when they bring in a player to compliment another and then don’t play them together. We’ve been a lone striker setup for years so how the hell was that gonna work if they weren’t gonna change the setup?
