Goats squad analysis thread 2025/6

I personally think it's incredibly exciting. No new owners will have taken over the club in the knowledge that half a squad is leaving in the summer and being unwilling to fund improvements over what we've had. We need about three players directly into the starting XI and then backup that's at least on par with what we've been starting with this season. Let's hope the club gets it right! ;)

A new dawn for FC SEXY ;)

And here we go, The rebuild starts here.

Well that's just terrifying really isn't it.

Last couple of seasons we've been signing squad players. We need several new STARTERS for the team this window, which is pretty scary.

STARTERS NEEDED: 6
RB: Essential, we need someone immense.
RW: Essential. Absolutely desperate for this position, spent far too long suffering with Harrison, it's not McNeil's best position either.
AM: Doucs has gone, we're none the wiser on Alcaraz - we need someone box to box ideally but who can add 10 goals a season!
ST: Beto has really surprised me. Need to decide if we back him to lead the line or we need a starting striker...only so much cash available. Chermiti needs a loan where he's a starter every week. Dom probably off, if not then a backup if fit.
DM: Again, depends on Gana - if he stays, we might not need a STARTER but deffo need depth / someone challenging to break in. Garner & Tim have an opportunity, Armstrong as well.
LB: Could do with a starter, or at least someone to challenge Myko. Like him but he's no Baines/Digne.

DEPTH: 4 (Minimum)
GK: Essential, we need a senior head and a promising future replacement for Pickers.
RB: Patterson isn't good enough. We need a new starter and someone to challenge for the position.
RW: Again, we need someone who can play on the right wing in case of injury.
CB: Only 3 CB's if we don't re-sign Keane, would be extremely dangerous if we didn't get cover.

2025/26 SQUAD
GK: Pickford
RB: NEW SIGNING / NEW SIGNING
CB: O'Brien / Tarkowski
CB: Branthwaite / NEW SIGNING
LB: NEW SIGNING / Mykolenko
DM: Gana / NEW SIGNING / Irogebunam
DM: Garner / NEW SIGNING / Armstrong
RW: NEW SIGNING / NEW SIGNING
LW: Ndiaye / McNeil
AM: NEW SIGNING / Alcaraz
ST: Beto / NEW SIGNING / DCL

You'd think Charly and gana come back into the fold as a minimum.

On the brand NEW players front I'm envisaging ,not specific, to position

2 x 'marquee' signings for decent fees circa £30 million

2/3 signings at more modest fees.

1/2 cheeky deals on a free.

5 x loans

That gets you 10-12 players needed for rebuild.

I also think people need to be prepared that they're not all going to be U23 wonder kids, it'll be a mix. With the players going out we probably need one or two older experienced heads.

But yes it's gonna be proper exciting for the transfer window nerd 👌

(As a postscript personally I'd spend the big money on striker and a right winger - we can be more pragmatic further back in midfield and defence with clever lower cost deals -.assuming we ain't going hog wild)
£30m doesn't buy a lot of "marquee" these days mate. It's minor attraction money.

Good summation Goatie...Alcaraz will stay therefore we have 14.

No more: Maupay/Holgate/Young/£130k a week Doucoure/calamity Keane/physio table residents Broja&Mangala/perma crocked DCL/the invisible Lindstrom/couple of keepers who aren’t of the level to play regularly.

Ain’t so bad…
That post actually makes me horny. Look at how many poo players are leaving us - brilliant. Now don't replace them with similarly poo players and things are looking up.

Would love to know how many collective minutes those 11 have played this season.

I’d suggest you need 2-3 ever-present players to cover it.

Why I put it in apostrophes mate, maybe read it as our main signings. The size of the fee is relative to circumstance and hopefully from where we have come from a £30 million pounds player is a big difference after trawling the bargain bins.

I also meant 2 individual players costing across the lifetime of their contracts £30 milion each. So £60 million if you do all that amortisation jazz, so in that scenario you possibly only talking £20 million down payment this season on both players.

Tbf I don't see us spending big, big money on any one player, as a) we need so many and b) we're only just out the psr woods and don't (yet) have the additional revenue of European footy 👍

If we had a spare 400m im sure Moyes would do a complete reset, as it is we need around 13 new players and some "cheap" decisions will be made.

Your opening post was that we had 13 players. The above in the Moyes thread states you think we need 13 more players?

Why would we need 26 players?

We had 25* players this season in our "squad" and we still struggled at times for numbers.

27 players had minutes this season and thats without the 2 back up GKs who didnt play a single minute in the league.

We name 20 players every week for a PL game, so in my view we need at the very least 26 players we can call on over the course of a season.

Sure, we can fill the bench with young players who are destined for League Two, but thats not really what I consider ideal.

Just removing Dixon, Holgate and Coleman we'd go from 27 to 24. I think 23 is enough.
